Now how’d I miss that…
A while ago I purchased a nice aluminum Flowkooler water pump for Pontiac V8 from Summit. Took a few weeks for it to arrive but when it did I painted it, carefully installed it, cleaned up any squished out gasket sealer and it was looking good.
A few days later I’m looking at the original motor still residing between the fender wells and notice something looks different between the original water pump and the new one. I’m thinking the pulleys are going to be way off… And that’s how I learned about the two different length Pontiac water pumps. Never knew that until now, lesson learned! Stranger yet, after my research on mid ‘69 water pumps, I find the correct length Flowkooler pump again on the Summit website and it says it expects availability “July 27, 2023”. Yikes! So last Friday 5/5 I go directly to the Flowkooler website and today Wednesday 5/10 the FedEx driver delivered the correct pump. July 27? What’s up with THAT?! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Is your date code H158? It looks like Inline Tube is making them.
If all Flowkooler does is add their impeller turnaround would be quick. Kind of wondering if you couldn't make the AL housing work after milling down it's snout... |

Thanks, yeah that’s an interesting idea but I did the swap last night. Right now I’m trying to get the car going for Hot August Nights 8/1-6 and my wrench time is limited so for the moment I’ll go with the cast iron pump. I will say there is a surprising weight difference between the two, more than I had imagined. I’ll keep the aluminum pump around and see if I can make it work over next winter.
