Default MSD STARTERS

Any one have a MSD Dynaforce Starter (5097)? I have their probillet distributor and digital box but never used any of their starter motors. I would imagine with a 3.4hp motor,4.4:1 gear ratio capable of starting up to 18:1 compression and a price tag around 290 it better be dam nice... any thoughts? good or bad.....

I broke my 3 year old powermaster XS torque starter last bracket race so I bought the msd starter and it cranks really fast. So far so good.

Cool, Thanks for the response.
I installed mine a few days ago. It looks like a nice piece. I wish it had another available position for the starter motor as I had to trim my oil pan (Canton) to make it fit. Plenty of header clearance though.

I went with a RoobMC starter to replace the Denso style for diaper clearance..It is infinitly adjustable without removing starter ! It's small compact shape is great. I opted for the optional nose support which made cost up with MSD. Rated less HP than MSD but with my 16 volt power it will crank well...At 12 volts my old Denso cranked fine..just not enough adjustments ...and blew a couple of pinion gears..

I was under the impression that Power Master was actually making the starters for MSD. Any truth to that?

No truth...Powermaster is made over seas and the MSD starter is made in the USA.
Everyone I know who has had a powermaster has had problems with the starter drive gear.

I'm thinking the almost 300 employees in El Paso, Texas would take offense to that statement. Most of the Power Master products are made assembled and tested here in the good ol U.S.A. They do have a handful of economy level products that do come from China, so they are not 100% all American made products. My Power Master starter is made here. If you have any doubts, give Tom in the tech department a call.[630-849-7754 ext. 251] He'll be more than glad to talk about their products with you. As he has with me. Also so far their customer service with me. It has been second to none. P.S. I do not have any affilliation with Power Master other than buying their products.

They are assembled in the USA with Chinese parts. How many employees does Scat have or Eagle? There cranks are ground in the USA but they are Chinese.

I am painting mine red. No sense in making it a big heat sink. Maybe that is why people are not buying them and MSD just put them on clearance ?
They have a 3 HP motor and can start a 18-1 engine.
Might buy another one, steal.

Damn that is a steal!

Edit: It’s so cheap I had to order one as a spare

I bought one, just too good a deal to pass up. I'll just hang on to it until I need it.

There was no price listed in the link? It just says notify when available. So I guess they are all gone. Unless there is another link or source.

They are gone. My brother bought one of the last ones yesterday evening. At 11:00 they were sold out.
Who knows if they will still be 95$ when they get some more in. Doubt it.

This is like when they had those EFI Victors for 180 $ and I failed to jump on it. Not this time, got one on the way.

Mine arrived yesterday. It has a 2017 date stamp so they must be clearing out old stock. 8 were sold on the MSD Ebay site and it looks like 1 is being flipped for $250.
