Default 1957 Sta-Wagon Next

Thought I would bring this back up as I'm going to
start on the wagon next. I've already got the motor
done for it. This is going to be a healthy daily driver
to. I already run the motor on the test stand next it
go's to the dyno, Hoping for 600 plus HP. Going to
have a stage two TCI 700r4 trans with lock-up converter.
Trans is suppost to handle 700-HP, Will see.
I've got a 3:73 12-bolt rear with Moser axles and spool.
This is also going to be a healty daily driver with a little
excitment Pontiac Style LOL The body will get draged into
the shop so I can get started on it. Brake system fuel system
Up-dated motor mounts and trans cross member, Some light
floor repair and interior. Going to make headers for it and full
3-inch exaust with x-pipe. I'll try to get pictures coming soon.

Thanks for the vidio Todd.
The motor is a stock-bore-455. I had a set of used TRW pistons
with plasma moly rings also used. I didn't even hone the cylindres
For less drag, the cylinders mice'd out great. 2-3 thousants taper.
A set of 5140 rods from Butler. Standard N-crank. Zero deck,A set
of E-heads from a PY member. 300 + cfm Butler heads with new
springs that I got from another member had retainers a locks.
Comp cam 575-lift 262 dur@50 on a 110 LSA. New solid rollers
from Butler 9.6 pushrods that I had. Factory valley cover scorpian
1.5 roller rockers victor intake 850 e-bay china carb. Billet 8000
Seedmaster distribitor
This set-up with the TCI tranny I got should work out pretty well.
More to come stay tuned.

Default 57-Sta-Wagon

OK Here is the story on the wagon.
I had to put floors in it, thats all done exsept for some finish work
underneath. Had to raise the trans tunnel a little bit got that done.
All the brake work is done other than the front shoes the brakes
are bled, the headers are built and fit good, the rest of the exaust
is done. I built a 3-inch system with an x-pipe and turn-downs as
the tail-pipes are gona be a pain. The spare tire well is in the
center on a wagon and the gas tank is between the fram and
the tire well so I'll do the tail pipes later. I had a buddy build me
A alluminium gas tank to replicate the factory one it was in bad
shape, Rock-auto had a sernder for it nice piece. Made my own
frame mounts and motor mounts fairly simple after 3 tries I got
the trans cross member done. I like this one.
Ordered a new allum-radiater have to change some brackets yet.
Things yet to do, trans-mission lines trans-cooler make a bracket
for the factory power steering install motor and trans put the
front clip back on and put the front seat in so I can take it for
the shake-down test drive. I'll get some pictures up here for
you guy's and gals too. Stay Tuned.

Oh for now I just put a 350 turbo in it as it was easy and I had it.
So when I get ready to do the 700r4 I'll have info on that also.

Well it's bad news for the 57-wagon, was gona take it on it's first test
drive today and it kept acting like it was running out of fuel it had done
it a couple times when running it in the shop well then it started poping
and mis fireing so I started checking this and that and I believe the fuel
line back by the tank is losse and sucking air but the misfireing had me
puzuled. Last night I had filled the radiater and thought I would check
to see if it needed any water and it was dry again so yep I pulled the
dip-stick and milk half way up the stick. All the water is in the pan.
Now I ran this motor on my test stand and all was good but I never run
any water in the motor never got it overly hot not at all I had started
it in the car quite a few times also. the motor sounds like a beast.
No problems what so ever untill I put water in it. I never took it to
my machine shop cause it had nearly perfect bores just did some
major kleen-up. Never would of thought it would have an internal
crack in it so the last 6-months of time on this thing was a waist.
I could of repaired one of my other cars and been racing this summer.
So I'm going to step back and figure out what I'm going to do.

Don't be so sure there's a crack, it could be just a blown gasket. If you haven't run it for any length of time with coolant the engine may be okay otherwise.

I think you live in Michigan. There is a .030 455 block on Marketplace.

This is a stock bore with forged pistons and I want to use them.
I've got other blocks just not sure if I have a nice stock bore block.
Could a bad timing chaine cover be the colprit? Hmmm

Well guess what I found the water leak getting into the oil
Dumb a$$ me forgot to tighting the timing chain cover go figure huh
Tore the motor down and checked the bearings and all are fine like
brand new still. Just got one heck of a mess to clean up then
back together. I can't beieve I did something so stupid well at
lease eveything is good and did not hurt any bearings.
I will report back later when I can do the shake down test run

Well It's a bad update! on the motor in the 57-wagon.
I tightened the timing chain cover and started the process all over
again and still got water in the oil, So I pulled the motor again
and put a different one in, now I've just got to work out the little
bugs with the car but I did get to drive it down to the gas staion
and put some more gas in it and of corse it stranded me there with
out my phone or jump box or anything EEEeeeeeehhh.
A local guy there gave me a jump and I buggied my butt back to
the shop. The car with I'm guessing 1960's tires drives really nice.
Hope to be driving pretty soon.
Haven't check the leaky motor out yet, let you know when I do
