Default Herb Adams cast aluminum oil pan

Selling a rare cast aluminum Herb Adams oil pan. I bought it for my engine build but it will not clear the main caps on my aftermarket block. No issues with it, doesn’t appear to have ever been used. Asking $400.

Aluminum is easy to modify. You could weld in some little "bump outs". Cool pan though!

There is FireAm group on Facebook might add it there some of those guys are hard core old Herb Adams stuff.

Got the baffle to seal it too! Smaller rear sump helped clear his 180 degree headers!

PM replied to Tom. Yea I had thought about modifying it but I didn’t want to cut it up since it isn’t a common piece.

Probably would be a shame to cut on.

I will modify the pan for the aluminum All Pontiac Block so that only an expert would know the extra clearance for the main caps is not as made by Herb himself.

Last Time I saw Herb he was back in Michigan doing engineering for a company in the state and still building his Herb Adams designed "Contessa" sports car.

There is someone that has been restoring his old Silverbird road race car. It still looks pretty bad!

Yes Skip. I was told that a couple of years ago "Dave" a co-worker at my job and a Pontiac Nut for many years (who bought the Silver Bird Race car from Herb) sold the car to a third owner who is now in the process of restoring the car. This is the real deal car.

So it may be shown again in the future in a magazine. I sold Dave a Raw 366 Forged Crankshaft as a back-up if the original crank was ever hurt bad. NOT LIKELY.

Dang. I missed out badly, I don't know how I missed this back in 2020, I was hunting one since 2018. Still in desperate need for one for my 1979 Fire Am if anyone else happens to have one for sale.

In the early 90's, had a never used Herb VSE pan & a set of Herb 180 degree headers which were designed to fit w the pan. The header sections went together like a puzzle, the sections had not been welded together yet. Have several pictures of the ready to be welded headers mounted on a Dport engine, if anyone is trying to recreate a set, will dig out the pics.

Would loooooooooooooooooooveee the pics, my 1979 Fire Am did originally have the 180 headers, the pan, and even the dry sump system. All that stuff is long gone, and i've given up on the headers and dry sump. Still want the pan, but open to making those headers!

If somebody that has a VSE pan could publish the dimensions, a dimensionally equivalent pan could be fabricated.....to use with 180 degree headers.

Just a thought....

Eric

They very likely could, I mean Jim Haller has purchased most of VSE's equipment and may even be able to reproduce new ones again, but it's like how someone restoring a W72 would want to chase a period original carb. I'd like to try nab an original, or maybe see if the Adams' will be interested in reproducing one. I could just buy the new Pontiac Moroso oil pans, but where's the fun in that

At least some one is thinking. That’s a rare piece why cut it up plenty of fabbed pans for that out there. Preserve the history intact when we can. I think you’re doing a great thing selling it and buying something else. Good job 👍

Pic is from ole pinion head posting for him
