Tesla is moving toward the LiFePo batteries, I think many EV companies will do the same. WAY less chance of any kind of combustion. There are LiFePo batteries actually approved for use in airplanes. They have a bit less energy density, and don't put out quite as much current but are factors of ten safer.

My 2004 duramax has a draft tube. Blows the crankcase vapors right out into the atmosphere.

It's killing a few mosquitos, too.

Maybe these EVs will last longer than the average electric battery tools. Both of my Dewalt batteries have diminished alot on run time. And the price for replacement Dewalt batteries are expensive. And you can't start to charge the battery until it cools down. Battery Replacement expense can be high enough to throw the whole thing away and buy new. And now a new battery design and you can't use your old charger. The EVs will have the same problems

The EV pickups have such a long ways to go to catch up to what a lot of people use their pickup for, it is hard to imagine them selling on much of a large scale. All our Diesel pickups we run have more range towing heavy stuff than any of those EV pickup’s that aren’t pulling ANYTHING. For normal driving at our Diesel pickups get about 25 mpg and will go 900 miles on a tank of fuel. The range they talk about for some of the EV’s pickups is about the same as my pickup when I tow our 47 foot race trailer. I guess the EV pickup would work ok if you just make super short trips and if you just want to use it like a car? Seems completely insane.

To some extent that will be true. The Pick-up in post 204 just looks like an oversize Subaru Brat. Bed is completely useless and open to the elements. I don't think you could haul a 1/2 sheet of plywood or drywall in it. Or even an appliance or vanity. What the hell is it for anyway? A complete head scratcher to me. Working with quite a few hybrids, good used batteries are available at junk yards for 30%-50% the cost of new. But full electric car batteries may be dead by the time they hit the junkyards/landfills. Where to put all the dead batteries will become an issue in 10 years. I likely won't be around to see how all this eventually pans out.

Many people claim that range anxiety is a false claim. Maybe in certain areas it is. But the EV owner from Canada in the link above exemplifies the real world problems for much of the country.

After spending $115,000 on the Ford EV pickup, and then putting in a level 2 charger at home and at work for a combined total of $16,000 additional, he learned that recharging his vehicle on a simple trip from Winnipeg to Chicago was an epic fail.

"On the family’s first stop in Fargo, North Dakota, it took two hours and $56 to charge his vehicle from 10% to 90%. The charge was good for another 215 miles."

"On the second stop, in Albertville, Minnesota, the free charger was faulty and the phone number on the charging station was of no help, he said. The family drove to another charging station in Elk River, Minnesota, but the charger was faulty there as well."

With only 12 miles of range left on his EV due to faulty chargers, what next?

Tow the vehicle into the nearest Ford garage, rent a vehicle to complete their trip and then pickup the Ford on the way home.

Before this debacle there was another EV problem..

"Not long after the purchase, Bala got into a minor accident which, he said, required "light assembly" on the front bumper. Bala took the vehicle to the body shop and did not get it back for six months."

"The actual thing they promised is not even close. Not even 50%. And once you buy it, you're stuck with it and you have to carry huge losses to get rid of that. And nobody is there to help you."

I don't understand the people who would buy an EV thinking they're going cross-country. Did they do exactly zero research on it whatsoever? I'm a big fan IF your use case fits their strengths, but I don't see the majority of people fitting into that use case.

My family members can Level 2 charge for free at work. If we get a Cadillac Lyriq with 300+ miles of range, she can charge on Monday, do her 60-mile round trip each day on that charge, and then charge on Friday and we have 200+ miles available for the weekend. Over 500 miles a week with zero gas cost. If we want to go to Vegas or San Diego, we can take my CT6-V.

My retired mother lives in a town where EVERYTHING (hospital, library, post office, grocery stores, restaurants, banks) are within 3 miles of her. She could get an EV and overnight charge it on 110v at home once a month and not run out of battery.

For anyone else? Either don't get one, or don't get one as a primary vehicle. - it doesn't make sense.

That sort of thing is certainly not limited to EVs - plenty of people have had delay problems these days with repairs on all sorts of cars. Just one example is my brother's Subaru Forester, he was in a collision over a year ago and it's still in the body shop waiting for a replacement radiator core support to be delivered.

It’s still all about the high price I don’t have that much into the last 3 trucks I have purchased and two of them were new. Never paying a $100,000+ for a daily driver.

EVs absolutely have their place, as do hybrids, and dino cars.

Shame, for some, it appears to be all or nothing. The some, for the most part, come from the government.
