Default 63 and a half or 64 Pontiac Catalina

I purchased my car back in 2022. At the time of purchase I didn’t know much about the car, neither did the seller. The car has good bones, and no serious problems. After doing a few days post purchase I noticed that the car had a 63 front end and hood, but the title and the fact plate on the firewall matched a 64.
I reached out to some guys in Facebook groups. They told me either it’s a 63 and a half or it’s a 64 and someone swapped the front end. Can some one lead me in the right direction? Trying to source parts for these cars isn’t as easy as going to the junkyard.

Go by the number on the trim tag, it's a 1964 car that someone put a 1963 front clip on. There wasn't any sort of 1963 1/2 car. Your VIN tag on the car's title (as well as on the driver's door pillar) should also decode to a 1964 car; you can look at the VIN decoding information at http://www.1963pontiac.com/tools.htm or https://www.tpocr.com/pontiacvin.html

It’s a ‘64 with a ‘63 nose. Dash is ‘64. Rear quarters are ‘64. If you want it right, look for a ‘64 nose.

Edit: after looking again, it looks like a ‘63 dash but quarters are ‘64. Looks as is someone cobbled a few cars together.

What I see is a 64 that has been wrecked and had a 63 front clip put on. If they did that I would start looking for damage that may not have been repaired well. Like frame and suspension.

I have been looking already. I’ve sourced a whole nose cone assembly and a grill assembly for 600.

Can't be the same car but in the late 1960's I sold a 1963 nose for his 1964 Pontiac.

Do yourself a favor and ditch the Slim Jim for a TH400. It’s a pretty straight forward conversion.

Some combinations:

If your starter mounts to the block, and you find a BOP pattern TH400 - then no.

Starter mounts to block, Chevy pattern trans - yes.

If your starter mounts to the trans:

BOP TH400 - you would use a starter mounting plate. You could purchase one, or fabricate one your self based on plans in Pete McCarty's book.

Chevy pattern trans - yes.

I have a '67 Buick TH400 in my '63 Grand Prix, by using a starter mounting plate.
