Yes. A. (Atley) Padgett Peterson.

I'm struggling to come up with what to write.

Gary (Cammer-6) Padgett and I (Glenn) met in late summer 1984 at a BOPC car show in Orlando. Been friends ever since.

I was informed late last week he was in hospital, Gary, his wife and Padgett's son were caring for him. I drove down Saturday from where I now live, 400 miles away.

We talked, reminisced and so on. Many wonderful conversations were had. Some of these stories may be shared here, such as him owning one of the three 1972 GTO Safari wagons. Another was him convincing Paul Z to take that magazine job in Lakeland, leaving his previous "career" in Maryland.

He was known for many amazing things in realms outside the Pontiac community, in both career and hobby interests. Some has recently been declassified, and he joked about how many times he "saved the world".

He took a turn and we stayed with him 24-7 until he was gone.

I miss him terribly.

Default Padgett rip

He helped me sort out the T I. System on my 64 GTO after I dragged it out of a field. He participated in Lone Star POCI events in the early 80’s when I lived out there. Very very bright guy and always helpful.

Yes Padgett was quirky and unique. Its part of which makes us individuals.
He was a combat wounded vet of the Viet Nam war(thank you kind Sir for your service and your sacrifices),
and also for me at least the smartest man I will ever know.Padgett knew how smart he was but was humble enough not to flaunt it
Ive heard him say he could have been a Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. Im not going to get into his main career much,he just answered
to a stranger about his job description as "rocket scientist".Whats amazing is how he touched the lives of so many.An example of this is both of us have been on another car forum, which I got in touch with a moderator to ask if I could post of his passing.
When I told the moderator who it was he proudly sent me a picture of a tube tester, claiming the notes rolled up in storage compartment were from Padgett and that he had talked on the phone with him. Its a small world...
Today,my wife and I planted a flag and flowers in his front yard.Again thank you for your service and your sacrifices.
I ll add more later, right now it feels like my heart has been ripped out.RIP ole buddy and dont forget to bang all 4 gears getting there.

I will add to this a comment my son said of Padgett.
What a shame all his knowledge is lost to cancer....

Glenn will chime in later, but right now we are still numb over this.
This community has suffered a great loss in his passing.
For me its just like losing a family member.
Glenn and I will add more later, after the numbness wears off.
I hope that with all the recent RIPs he doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
I know this is a few months old, but I was just looking for Padgett this evening, and found these messages... RIP Padgett and my condolences to his friends and family. Many years ago I enjoyed conversation with him on a computer forum or two and was searching those out.. only to learn of his passing.. seems like it happens more and more these days.. his knowledge (of many subjects) and wit were unmatched.. but often times I almost felt like he was quoting what I would say about this subject or that.. uncanny.. take care
