Default Decoration Day

A huge thank you to those we remember on Decoration Day, and to their families.

Have been caring for a mostly abandoned cemetery now for more than 40 years. Newest burial is 1954. Will get out the flags and flowers tomorrow (Saturday),

For those traveling this weekend, be safe. Travel was literally brutal today. Will be home away from the highways both tonight (Friday) and Monday.

Again, thanks to those who memory we honor Monday, and to their families.

Jon

Visit a National or State Veterans Cemetery this weekend. Read the grave markers, how young they were, where they died and be prepared to be humbled.
This is what Memorial / Decoration Day is all about.

My mother's dad fought in World War 1. I should visit his gravesite more often.

If you google, "find a grave" with name of city following. You will get a list of cemetaries in or near that town. After finding correct cemetary, you can find grave of person you are looking for.

Our are churches (still) uphold Decorating and call a Decoration day, but it was last week and the week before.

Makes sense to tie Memorial/ Decoration day together. I guess regardless when the decorating gets done.

My paternal grandfather was a WW1 vet. I really should get out to his grave more often than I do.
