Default Steep hill engine stalling at WOT

Hi,

Going up a steep hill with my Firebird at WOT, the engine suddenly stopped. I noticed gasoline leaking around the carburetor. It only happens in this hill. What is the cause and solution ? (see pictures)

Thanks in advance for your help !

Probably two things. If it only happens on that steep hill. My guess is that the angel is steep enough that your float cannot put enough pressure on the needle valve to shut off incoming fuel, causing a flooded condition in the carb. Second it looks like you need some new gaskets at the base of your carb.

Does the carb have the plastic fuel bowl cap above the metering rods?

Looks like a "Frankencarb" assembled with parts from at least three different carburetors.

Maybe you uncovered fuel pick up in your tank? How much fuel in tank at the time?

Just how would his carb show signs of flooding out like it is if his tank pickup is getting uncovered?

If that is a 67 carb then they had the early and poorly designed float set up that was prone to flooding out at sever angles, even more so if the float is just a tinny bit out of adjustment.

They where very sensitive to having that adjustment dead on.
In conjunction with your float could be going bad a absorbing fuel and riding lower the it should.

It looks like a 1973-74 Pontiac float bowl mfd by Carter with an added tube for ported igintion vacuum advance, 1973-74 Buick air horn (hopefully drilled for upper idle air bleeds) and a Chevy throttle plate.
Any guess what´s inside is good.

FWIW

It’s just a thought considering he said it’s under WOT and on a steep hill. Not saying it didn’t flood out but could that have been prior to the stalling.

This the plastic cap I was referring to.
It’s internal above the float.
