Default What is it ?

A couple weeks ago we destroyed a high 11 sec. 455 motor.
So we put together an old well used 400 motor .
Same intake manifold.
Started it up, sounded good, ran for 5 minutes and died.
Restarted motor and heard a loud knock.
Pulled motor, pulled pass head and found this piece of metal on top of piston.
What is it and how did it get there ??

Piece of metal from the 455 get trapped in the intake manifold and fall out when installed on the 400?

Looks like the end of the dipstick tube smashed flat.

Hiding inside the intake manifold and ending up in the next engine.

It's got that light goldfish copper color that tells me it was part of the dip stick set up or factory windage tray if you where running that.

NO broken pushrods. All pistons were still in their holes. We put together a mild 400 with a different set of heads same intake. The piece almost looks too big to pass through the intake valve. Scratching our heads. Put 400 back together, running fine, just slower.

The color of it and how it would have gotten in to your intake runner in the first place.
