Default 69 Firebird Radios / Options and differences

I thought that there were only two radio's installed in 69FB's during that time but as it turns out there are three? An AM Radio/ AM/FM black button Monaural/ AM/FM chrome button Stereo.

Were I think I m wrong is with the chrome buttons? Did the 69FB Stereo AM/FM radio come with chrome buttons?

Can someone list out the radio's available for 69 Firebirds?

AM/FM Stereo had the chrome buttons, standard AM/FM had black buttons w/ AM on the far left button end and FM on the far right button end and Am had black buttons with no band identification.

Also the 8track was available with any of the 3 radios. Stereo radio used the same 4 speakers as 8-track.

Here's pics as confirmation of the chrome buttons on the AM/FM Stereo version in my car.

And this is what it would look like out of the car (this was one for sale on eBay awhile back):

Anti-Radio - aka Radio Delete
AM single speaker - no balance or fader adjustment
AM Fader - rear speaker option - Frt/Rr adjustment

FM Mono - single speaker - no balance or fader adjustment
FM Fader - rear speaker option - Frt/Rr adjustment
FM Stereo - Red Dot with chrome buttons - balance adjustment

All had the longer buttons - i guess due to dash bezel design.
Bird only , only 69 , afaik

i -think- 8track got you Fr/Rr speaker option if Non-Stereo
Stereo was 4 speaker with or w/o 8track

Stereo was a higher output unit than the others also.

Lots of Black Button Red Dots out there .
69-72 A-body , 70-76 F-body , just for starters.

Sticker ID , font style and location on faceplate , electric plug going in from top or bottom , antenna port location ..... lots of ways to determine what is what .... besides button color and button length .

69 Birds are 1 year only radios across the board as far as real originals .

Your buddy probably has a radio that was not originally a 69 Bird applicaton.

Might check tonight and see. His 69 Sprint Vert is original as far as the PHS and his checking Pontiac's. I am confident that his is OE factory.

If you really want to CSI it (without removing it and viewing tag ID)

The Delco logo font and location is shared with a lot of other applications - but it should be in lower right corner.

The only other things would be to confirm it is Red Dot -

And the last test would be to measure the push-button protrusion and cross reference it with Fbird69 - if he were to be so inclined as to measure his button protrusion.

Anything is possible from time to time.
The standards are known , the exceptions are mostly unknowns.
Buttons can also be swapped and/or painted
ID tag and power outlet direction would be best evidences

Here is a pic of the stereo radio in my sprint. It is the correct radio and has the right tags on both the radio and the multiplex for a 69 Fbird stereo. I added it but the 8 track is original. The original radio was an AM.

Whats interesting is that when you have either mono radio with an 8 track you control the sound balance of the radio by using the balance knob on the 8 track (the right bezel will be fixedon the radio).

However when you have a stereo radio the right bezel of the radio controls balance when listening to the radio and the balance knob on the 8 track when listening to it.
