AM/FM stereo controls
I need the bezels to adjust the speaker fade on the AM/FM stereo in my 69 bird. I can't find any for my bird, but found some for the 69 Camaro. Are they the same?

no
in 69 the firebird radio is unique, not the same like 67-8 firebird/camaro the 69 is more like a GTO/lemans, and even a bonniville, and they would interchange really the only thing unique on the firebird radio is it has really long push buttons..really long..the knobs and stuff look just like a GTO

69 camaro is a completely diff radio..so diff..id be wondering where the radio guy came up with that one....
he may just have the 67-8s confused..the 67-8s do swap and look the same ive had 3 or 4 69 firebird FMs in the past..like i said the only real recognizable diff is the long push buttons, and if the ID sticker is there, thats a clue..a guy could mistake it for the a-body radio very easy..and i have taken A and B body knobs and put them right on the FB..

Nope, the bezels for the 69 firebird are different than all other 69 pontiacs. The listing you posted is for all other 69 Pontiac radios. The 69 firebird used deep set black ribbed bezels with no markings on them. I don't have a pic on my iPad but you can find pics online.
While the bezels are unique to the firebird the knobs are the same as other 67-70 pontiacs

Here is a pic of a am radio but since firebird bezels had no markings they used the same bezels as an amfm or a stereo. When you look at the shape of your dash bezel you will understand why the regular Pontiac bezels wouldn't fit.
The firebird radiios are unique also because of the placement of the heat syncs, A and G body had it on the back, big cars on the right and firebirds on the left.

Fader bezel
My 69 Bird now has AM-FM radio w/ fader for one back seat speaker. The fader switch is from a GTO as well as the bezel. Should have said the GTO fader switch and bezel fits in the Bird and works well. Feel lucky to find AMFM radio and fader parts as they are sorta hard to find. Will not be looking for the black bezels as the ones I have work and look well. I looked for this radio and hookup for over two years! Thanks.. Frank69

69 radios are a pricey proposition, each Firebird radio costs two to three times more than what the equivalent radio from other Pontiacs.

I got a set of bezels from Ames. They are black, ribbed, and approx. 1/2 inch deep. One of them worked on either side, but the other was just a dummy. The nice people at Ames sent me another one like the one that worked. They might not be correct, but they work!

Those are the right ones, because of how the bezel area is so resessed on the 69 Firebird they used that ribbed design so you can turn it thumbscrew style.
The pic is of the factory original knobs and bezels in my Firebird with an AM and 8 track combo. If you have a stereo or a mono radio with rear speaker option the right bezel controls speaker balance. When you had the 8 track player and a mono radio the 8 track balance control was used to control the speaker balance even when playing the radio. If you had the stereo radio and 8 track the stereo radio would control speaker balance when the radio was one.... confusing!!

Good thread!
I am going to append an older thread to this, as well as cross-link this thread to that one.
http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...70#post5004270 My '69 is an AM-only radio car but I have an inoperative mono-AM/FM that I may try to rehab this winter. By the way, the model number for the mono-AM/FM is 92FFP2. The schematic can be found in Sams Auto-Radio Book #64. |
