Those are a good demonstration of how design ideals have drastically changed since those days. Horn buttons are just rectangular pads with more buttons on them now. Those are literal works of art and all of the marques had them in the 50s and 60s.

1950, a little worse for the wear. And, yes, I know it is upside down. I have a better one to go back with when I get the car to that point. Right now I am on track to get it done by my 168th birthday!

Back when we were still actively making salvage yard trips I became very enamored with Pontiac trim details. Scrips, Wheel Disc, and of course Horn Buttons.
I had accumulated quite a collection. Have to admit that the shadow box shown in the op is a great idea, I wish I had done something like that. Well, that said I no longer have many of those items. However, the one item that still remains in my case is not so much a horn button, but a center cap on a horn bar from a 1953 Pontiac Deluxe steering wheel. Here is just a small example of the detailing and craftsmanship that went into these automobiles. This cap alone is a stamped base, with a two-color paint scheme, white lettering, and a deep translucent red in the center. With a stamped thin brass Indian Chief head ornament perched on a small post to give a three-dimensional effect. And then shielded with a clear Lucite/plastic dome held onto the cap with a polished crimped trim ring. Think about all that for a moment. As mentioned these are truly works of art!

When I go back this fall I’ll take a better pic. That one did t come out too well. They have 2 bigger ones that show all the car company’s Badges that went out of business, I’ll get those 2 also.
