My 69 400/330 hp made 256 hp on the dyno 7 years ago with the rebuild the previous owner did. It was rebuilt with 9 : 1 KB (346TM) pistons and #62 72cc heads and a stock cam.
Cam sound @ idle sound file: http://www.scumbackspeakers.com/69bird/69idle.mov It's getting a Crower 60243 cam, Crower hydraulic 66056 lifters, Comp Magnum #1452 1.65 roller tip rocker arms, and matching Comp #7262 9.130" long pushrods. Then there's the KRE D-Port 65cc aluminum heads (milled .030) to around 62cc, and an Edelbrock 7156 Performer RPM intake. The KRE heads flow 260 cfm out of the box. The carb is an SMI 850 cfm Q-Jet. I've got RARE long branch exhaust manifolds going on, connected to 2.25" pipes. That should produce 10.45 to 1 compression. With some calculators online and some opinions offered here, I hope it's going to produce 450 hp and over 500 ft lbs of torque. Does anyone know of a good place to get the Bird dyno tuned and tested in the Phoenix AZ area? Let me know... thanks! Jim / aka ScumOne jim@scumbackspeakers.com |

Picked up a beat up very BF SR
OT changed to 8 ohm. Had baffle cut out & rebuilt for a 12” which had your bm55 on it.

Pulled my 95 Lincoln Cassette Head from the 68 GTO. No tunes. Is there another cassette head that will plug into a 95 Lincoln dash wiring. The Trunk Amp (rcvr) and 4-speakers are too good to dump.
Put the RA-II/IV driver manifold on, trashed the O-port header. Car souns sooo darn tame, even with the Pass Header on. Looking to got Iron on the P-side some day when i find that manifold. But will it be sounding tame?

You had a good bump in compression plus the additional air flow so it's not a big surprise

So let me confirm I got this right!
Your running a header on one side of your motor and a exh manifold on the other!? You must get nice even fuel fuel distribution!

It's supposed to be finished on Friday, and if it is, I'll drive it down to Scottsdale and have it dyno tested next week. I'll scan both the old and new dyno sheets and post them. |

Here's a little before and after idle movie clips of the upgrades.
Basically stock 400, reduced to 9:1 compression with 067 cam, #62 heads, stock exhaust manifolds (logs). This measured 202 RWHP 6 years ago. http://www.scumbackspeakers.com/69bird/69idle.mov This is with the KRE aluminum 65cc (260 cfm) as cast heads shaved down .030, Crower flat tappet hyd cam, Comp roller tip rockers (1.65) and push rods, Performer RPM intake, 850 cfm QJet, RARE long branch exhaust manifolds (same 2.25" exhaust pipes & mufflers as before) but it hasn't been timed or dialed in yet. The guesstimate is this will put out 450-500hp. It was raining when I picked it up on Tuesday in Prescott, so I wasn't able to go WOT. The response it had, though, was dramatically more potent, as you can imagine. I haven't done a compression check yet to see what the new heads raised that to, but calculators online put it around 10.5:1. http://www.scumbackspeakers.com/69bird/new69idle.mov |

10.5 is right where you want to be.

Actually where I'd like to be is testing the upper RPM limits on a long straight road with sunshine and no rain. But I'll settle for breaking in the motor for 4-500 miles until the monsoon season passes, and then get a chassis dyno done to the car.
Until then, I'll have to work on burning a riff on my Les Paul... |
