1964 MANIFEST Decoding
There are many sites to decode VINs and Data Plates but I have not found a decoder for the build MANIFEST. Why can't this be found?
My PHS explains the '64 options but I'm curious what Boxes 38-78 represent and options for each. |

Which assembly plant was your car built in?
(ie, Chevrolet controlled plant, or Pontiac controlled plant). I assume Pontiac controlled (or other Group 5 plant), since the Chevrolet plants used the UPC/RPO codes that are still in use today. K

For 1965 (Pontiac) the build manifest gives the handy decode on the document itself.
I did a quick cursory check and many of the codes seem to be the same for 1964 and 1965, so this might get you started. The codes are read using the box number and then the specific option content, ie: Box 38 code 2 = GTO Box 39 code 8 = manual antenna If the number is higher than any of the individual choices it means they have been combined (they add up),ie: Box 42 code 7 would be W/S Washer (1) + Dual Exh Ext (2) + Inst Panel Pad (4) = 1 + 2 + 4 = 7 etc K

Your best bet would be to find this book:
Unfortunately, that could prove difficult since Eric has passed away and the book is no longer in print. They very very rarely come up for sale new. In view of that I'm going to go ahead and post the sales code listings, as well as their UPC/RPO counterparts and pricing. Eric had previously given me his permission to use his information as I see fit, so I am going to deem this OK in this instance. K

Keith, thanks for the info. My car was built in Pontiac, MI. I’ll post the manifest I received from PHS after I compare it to the 1965 MANIFEST you posted. The 1964 MANIFEST doesn’t detail the options for each box.

If this is from PHS, that is also called the Billing History Card (BHC as some call it).
Post it and someone can probably explain it also.

PHS for 64 and prior looks like the manifest.
Billing history card starts in '65.

Sure, but I was trying to get across that his 64 'manifest' is more in line with what a BHC looks like.
Here is a 64 Manifest from another thread in this section: As OP said there is no options listed on it like what is on your Manifest. (Keith's) Keith's is more like a buildsheet from other years. John V's decode of some of these can help explain what each box means. With a pic of his actual paper can be deciphered easier when seen and use the options pics posted by Keith.

Here is the MANIFEST from PHS. The small tag was found attached to the underside of the rear seat. When I was 17, I seem to recall finding tattered paperwork when I removed the gas tank for rust repair. Probably the original build sheet. That, unfortunately, is long gone.

Thanks John! I knew of the options it was born with from the PHS I received 10 years ago. My question was where do you go to get the info. After reviewing the list you posted, I discovered I had the answer all along.
The PHS also sent pages titled 1964 PONTIAC OPTIONS. I just did’t know how to ‘read’ it. The GROUP column 382 , DESCRIPTION G.T.O. OPTION. I know realize it means BOX 38 DESCRIPTION 2. THANKS |

Yeah, back in 1971 that 17 year old kid didn’t care about an old piece of paper that wasn’t gonna make me go faster!
That wasn’t the only thing. My gear head buddy, who had bow ties, talked me into ditching the stock shifter for a new HURST Competition Plus. The new shifter was probably better but sure wish I held on to the original. If only it had the HURST logo on the stick in ‘64 ‘cause that was the cool part! Let me see, I had… …original tri-power air cleaners …reverse light switch, 4spd …original steering wheel (not deluxe) …reverb switch, probably dealer installed All long gone and I’m sure there’s more I’ve forgotten. No worries though, it’s all out there for a price! |
