Carter AFB Please answer me this
I have a Carter AFB on my 66 LeMans. I'm trying to adjust the carburetor and since i have the large "air screw" in the center. Instructions in the shop manual say to turn air screw out 1/2 turn, warm it up and adjust air screw to obtain correct idle RPM. If that is so then what does the on the linkage have to do with it? It's the screw with the Allen fitting. I don't know why the picture is upside down.

That throttle screw is added by someone lacking knowledge about the functions of the Pontiac AFB´s, with the air screw adjusting idle speed.
Often found on remanufactured "Frankencarbs". The throttle adjusting screw is used on Pontiac AFB´s with A.I.R. w/o the air screw between mixture screws. |

Carb may have been on an engine with an aggressive cam and the owner could not get satisfactory idle speed with the big screw.
