Exclamation header is off WHAT A PITA

OMG talk about an SERIOUSLY difficult job.....

theres a bolt thats 4th from the front, and i had to take the starter out and reach in there and ever so slowly turn that bolt.

my nuckles are bloody and im exhausted, took 4 hours all together.

I need to scrape a little more of the old gasket tomorrow and I should be OK for an install tomorrow.

what a headach!

overall I fell good that I did it myself, welp, my brother helped also.

congrats. i hope to someday take on that PITA job. as soon as I can afford new headers.

I'll start soaking the bolts in liquid wrench now. Maybe in a month or two they'll be ready to come out!

You go girl.

Damn those are difficult.

Told ya.

I hate headers.

Except for my round-port Tri-Ys that are fairly easy to deal with.

FWIW even stock logs can be a pain especially with lock tabs that you cant get to, to open them up so you can get a wrench on them properly.

NOW clean those bolts up on the wire wheel, chase the bolt holes with a tap or thread restorer. Then you might have them back on so fast you'll wonder why it took so long to remove them. Remember to start the hardest to get at bolt FIRST!

Good Luck

I always put some copper-based high-heat anti-seize on exhaust hardware. Fel-Pro makes it, among others.

Wow, good to know...otherwise I would just crank in the old, or new bolts in dry, as tight as I can turn them.

Still...could be months from now till I get new headers... =(

headers are a pain, unless you really want 15 to 20 extra HP go with something else.

Well BK, I am DYING to get dual pipes on that beast!

What difference would it make to leave the manifolds on? Actually, ya know...I drilled out my passenger side manifold because I broke the bolts off the last time when I had to install all new exhaust pipe. I wish I had the money then for 2 sets of pipe!

I don't think any air is ecaping at the Y right there where I have only one bolt....but it sure does look like crap. Took me a lot longer than 4 hours too.

I just noticed in your sig...you have a TKO600 trans? That had to be one of the most expensive upgrades to your car....I looked into that briefly because I get bored with the auto.

haha, yeah. I'd love to terrorize my neighborhood, and with the wheel/tire combo I recently acquired....and my new half-assed paint job...I feel lame in stealth mode with single exhaust!

So, what about headers? Should I still get em? I hate how Xpensive exhaust components are....considering how fast it rots to dust....WTH?!

Welp, I had P Dude build me a 455 with all the goodies and that was about 6 grand, and the tremec was about 1990.00 or so and add a Mcleod clutch and new posi unit in the rear.

Im very happy with the car, i waited 7 years to build a pontiac and I followed my dream.

Eventually the car will be gutted and straight up raced with a 505+ block, canted valve heads and procharger maybe.

eventually..... maybe 2009

the pypes system has a life time warrenty on it, so long as you dont cut them up.

If u really like the sound, get the X pipe and get some electric cut outs.

you can control from open headers to reg dual exhaust!!!

make your car a sleeper.

mine kinda was, until you hear the 455 with 3 inch exhaust

Haha! Nice. My car isn't a sleeper right now...it's just plain ASLEEP. And I need to wake it up. I'm hoping that dual exhaust and maybe a bigger intake/carb in the future will get me some go. As far as the cut outs...I will probably just get some Thrush glasspacks(as long as they fit), to keep a nice consistent rumble.
