Classic line from another forum where "muscle car" people hang out... Mustang owner and proud of it: "I hate the new GTO. Those are the ugliest tail lights and exhaust tips I've ever seen!"

My response: "Glad to know, after 35 years, some things never change. Like the view Mustang owners get of GTO..." He never responded.

Now that the car has been out there a while, and beat up on ALL its competition at the tracks, GTO has left its mark. No more nay-sayers regarding performance and whether or not it holds up the reputaion GTO earned.

I'm proud to say I am one of the "die hards" that LOVE old GTOs, yet embrace the new one. GTO was never a "Hey! Look at me!" car. The mystique built it up over the years, but it was always aimed at the DRIVER and how the car felt and drove. The view of the dash and over the hood is MUCH more important than looking at it from the window in the resturaunt... Most of the negative stuff I've read or heard has come from the "band wagoneers" that bought older GTOs because they were "cool cars" or an investment. Not the guys that bought them to drive! Those are the real GTO guys.

IMO

Jim

Jim
I judge a car I'm buying from the back, as that's the angle that I'm showing people.
Hence my avatar.
I love the rear, best angle.

Excellent, this is what it really boils down to. The car has exemplified the meaning of the GTO's creation. Only this time around it was MORE pronounced.

I can understand some of the reservations some of our members possess. However, I cannot understand the constant, unending styling complaints, and their mission-to-dissuade other potential buyers with their constant whining.

My second post ever on this board was, "let's at least support Pontiac's effort if for nothing more, to show them a market indeed, exists. Let's give them motivation to bring out the next generation". Yet, people seem to have their own (foolproof) visions as to what will or will not be successful, not realizing that it's not 1967 anymore.

You can add an Eaton to your GTO and still have less invested.

no pics right now but you will see them around town and at the track in the future and i forgot i can not call a car a gto or t/a because they look just like one inside and out and have gto and t/a parts on them ! and i think that is exactly what gm did (dumbaZZs who do they think they are anyway!!)
p.s. the point i was trying to make on my first post was that the 05 looks good beside any old car to me and even all of mine!
(this is for johnny -1974 gto (clone) pro street in the making, 1978 trans am (clone built from a 1976 formula), 1976 trans am , 1974 gto , 1956 pontiac (hot rod in the making), 19 howard dragboat with a pontiac 428 (getting a full restoration), because some how this bugs him if i dont get it right for him because everybody has got to
know even if they dont give a crap.) like i said- sorry for posting anything i will keep my thoughts to myself in the future .

Well actually, LeMans started in '61, Chevelle in '64.

Chevrolet was the entry level GM, Pontiac was the racing division, Olds and Buick and Cadillac were the upper crust of GM back in the early days. Not many parts will interchange between a 64-72 GTO and like years Chevelles other than some glass, door handles, trunk and floorboards and the roof line... IE you can't slap Chevelle doors on your 69 or 70 or trunk lid, hood, nose, etc... I have yet to have my GTO called a Chevelle at the track or on the street by anyone... they always know exactly what they are

The best thing that can be said about the new gto is they are aerodynamic. That means they are a ugly half worn out bar of soap looking car.Look like everything else on the road.I see them all the time and have to look for the badge to make shure its a gto.Real GTOs stand out. These things are not Goats, never will be.
I do not consider them a real GTO.They are a Monero with the same engine found in Chevys.
They are a fine car to be sure.Just not a GTO.GTO in name only.
Being into Pontiacs has always been about being differant. These things are ALL about being the same.
Our Pontiacs looked better than Chevys, had our own engine that sounded awsome. There are a lot of other people who love real Pontiacs. The people who do brought our old engine back from the dead, thats proof.
The cars are a nice little package of power and drivability, but not a GTO at heart.
If you dont understand that you just dont get it and never will.
Its fine GM made the car and all that, just never should have called it a GTO.
And the LSI is a stout engine to be shure but why they invested all that in a pushrod,4 head bolt engine I dont know.Ford went with a OHC.And the Engine in my Tundra is unreal. Its a 4 cam, 32 valve Hemi.It runs 14.6 just driving out to the track, let some air out of the tires and stomp the gas in drive.5700 pounds, take 2000+ pounds off it.Put it in a 3400 pound car and it would eat a new gto alive.
The new gtos blow chunks and I for one wish the name was never slapped back on that car.
Then you have the new gto owners think they are a fellow GTO owner and dont get it when you dont even care about checking out thier car.

totally 100% dont agree!!!!.....most ridiculous thing i ever heard, dragncar..a '64 GTO did not "stand out" & look "unique" in '64...it was an intermediate-sized "box" like many other cars on the road...BUT it was a great package....looks, power, comfort and a back seat...(2006 GTO??)....no "pontiac" v8???..u gotta be kidding!!..GM's been using "corporate" engines for DECADES!!, should the GTO be anything different??....oh, and one more thing, me & every other owner of the FASTEST GTO ever made couldnt care less if some old guy "re-livin his youth" doesnt look at our cars....we know what we got
