Default My GTO gets closer to the road (PICS)

Thought you all might like to see my project. It wasn't supposed to take this long, but you know how things go...plus add my first baby boy into the equation, and you've got a year and a half!

Here's the start. I just didn't like the look. Glossy throughout and a black motor. Plus, it was getting a little rough.

Out with the ugly

More detail

Lots of degreaser and a little fresh paint can go a long way

Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator really won me over as a primer, followed by DupliColor blacks

Other than a new cam, the inside of the motor didn't get touched. Pretty darn nasty.

80 cans of brake clean and 2 cans of Pontiac blue and here we are

Another

Closer

Doug Nash 4+1 transmission

After some cast coat

Manifolds and trans. hung

Ready to go in

The motor slid right in last night. I will have more pics to follow. The whole car will be rewired and the little stuff put back on. I will update as I progress.

Oh...and here's the source of the delay....

Sam was born 12-03-07. The GTO took a backseat in my heart.

Hope you enjoyed the pics,
Dante

Here's a few more as requested...

Someone who knew the car previously sent me these in an email. Taken after the car was first restored in '82. The Hurst wheels were on it when I bought it, but I sold them soon after.

Interior is all original. Don't worry, that big tach is gone now.

And a few more previous to tearing it apart...

With my dad's '55 gasser

More to come soon...

What tire size are you using? The car has a very nice stance.

Does it have convertible springs, bags, etc... in rear ? What about the front springs, are they newer ?

Looks great! The color looks close to what I had back in the 80s but I don't know where the guy got the color.

Tires are BFG 235/60/15's

Have adjustable airshocks in back, front are station wagon springs, but it still didn't sit high enough for my taste, so I crammed as many spring spacers in the fronts as I possibly could. Still not quite right, so I may try something else.

Been pretty busy, so not much progress lately. Motor and tranny now in the car. All of the little stuff should be on this weekend.

Here's a very dirty Goat enjoying the weather for the first time in a long while...

Hopefully more to come after this weekend.

Dante

Nice lookin 65 Goat Dante.

I was at a car show up in Bethel, PA on Labor Day and picked up a 1:18th scale Hurst Edition 65 GTO from a vendor. After seeing yours had the Hurst wheels on it, I got it out to look at it a bit more. Now to find a way to blow it up to full size. LOL
