auto flex plate
I agree with Brad, try the 389 auto flexplate. They may be the same, with and without torque converter holes, and therefore, have different part numbers. Check the diameters for sure.
As far as the plate, it is a reinforcing plate that is mounted next to the engine on my example. Do you have one on the back side, too? |

I doubt it would be harder to find, they made that combination in big cars for 4 years at least that I know of for a fact, 61-64, Bonneville and Star Chief. It may even be the same in earlier years. Keith's friend, Steve Barcak owns Pontiac Heaven in Phoenix, 450 Pontiacs, he should have one hanging around.

I posted a link to this thread over on the 62-66 big car forum, someone over there might have either the knowledge or a Super flexplate lying around. One way or another you'll get something to work. At least I'll find out if my suspicions were correct about interchangeability.

Here is a reply from the other post:
Based on the pictures in the Tempest post, a Super Hydramatic flex plate is not the same. A Super flex pate does not have an attached ring rear. I can't see a clear picture of it, but it looks more like a 58-60 flex plate. I had 2 59s and a 60 so I was pretty sure I had seen one similar somewhere in my travels and exploits. If your other deal doesn't work out there is still hope. I think even a T400 could be made to work but that's purely speculation on my part. |

I became a ghost on here for awhile and had to put my pontiac build aside for awhile.
I picked up a lot of gigs with several of my own bands and after that was done, I picked up a job being a roadie for a japanese band during their 2011 tour earlier this year, Ill probably be doing their next tour as well next year. Anyways, I am still looking for a flexplate for my car, and I havent chosen a set of heads yet so any ideas on that would be great. My 389 heads are no good, and my 326 heads would def push it into 11.5:1 territory or higher and Im planning on driving this as a daily so 93 octane is all I got and thats no good. If anyone knows where a flexplate is let me know, and if you have a good set of heads for a 63 389 block that would run on 93 octane let me know. Im probably gonna buy my buddies 389 tripower setup that he pulled of a 64 gto years ago just because I like the look and the sound, and I heard you can pull decent gas mileage out of it if you keep your foot out of it. If anyone has suggestions for dual exhausts without cutting anything let me know, as I still havent figured that out.

The fastest and easiest way to get the part you need is to buy a '63 Tempest 326 V8 parts car. The flexplate for a 63 Lemans 326V8 engine, auto transaxle is a one year only, one engine only item.

All I am saying is that part is going to be a VERY, very difficult item to find now, at any price and as a separate part, based on the year, the car, and the fact that the car has to have the V8 engine option.
62 and 63 4 cyl cars and engine parts seem to be plentiful still; but a V8 engine in a '63 really "makes" the car.
