I run a 9" Ford in the White Warrior Tempest. It replaced a 62 big Pontiac rear that would occasionally break the center section casting.
I have coilovers and long ladder bars with a track bar. I use a Strange 12 bolt drop in section to reduce weight and friction.

I am just finishing up a 9" 31 spline posi. on a mini-tubed 63,with leaf springs and a set of home made Cal-tracs, that is replacing a 28 spline 9"ford, that is replacing a ( just because it fit so well ) 8" ford ( do not do this!) the only problem with leaf springs is you need to mount your springs inboard of the frame rail's and you will lose your gas tank.
hope this help,s someone.

What is the approximate weight difference between the 9" and BOP 59-64 full size rear?

the main reason not to use a 57-58 pontiac, correct width, for the tempest is the lack of avail gears for the 57-64 housings. Also for a street driven car a good posi is very hard to find and once broken, parts are impossible to buy.I have a Xtra 57 rear end with moser axles and a 3.90 posi I might be moving.Tom

I had a 57 Pontiac under mine. Then realized the57 Olds was narrower,to fit without cutting.Been sittin that way a few yrs.I agree with the others use the 9".I got the parts but just enough for awhile.
Interesting the idea of the 12 bolt center section in the 9",White Warrior.

Spent the afternoon helping 63' adjust his rear & put some bigger skins on his LeMans.

I thought it was a good time for some better pics.
Enjoy...

Thought Id post a pic of my 61 Tempest rear. I choose a 34"ladder bar for simplicity and to retain the back seat. Last years combo ran consistant 1:38 short times.

Why do people use rusty, pitted 9" housings when nice smooth new ones are available?

Use a Dana instead.

Jeff: Why are those shocks so close together?

Thankfully I have a 9" that is in pretty good condition. But I painted mine RED not black. I guess I want everyone to see all the trouble I went through to get this thing done and blow their minds.

You can spend your money were you want.I dont need a Fab 9" to go bracket racing. Use your big heavy Dana knock youself out. Next time you want to change your internal rear parts you can pull your whole rear out Ill just pull the center section.I guess your running an IA-2 and not a 30 year old rusted and pitted factory block also.I guess I should have junked my car too because it was rusty. Not everybody has unlimited budgets.

Or you could have sold it to Misus to go along with the 17 other early 60's rust bombs he has that he'll never save.

Tiac,
That thing looks great!
We were in the same boat. We don't give a **** about some dimples on the case!
It's whats inside that matters.
Built to beat on, not to be a show car.
