Default Drive shaft safety loop bolts to trans

Anyone remember those safety loops that bolt to the trans mount?

I was trying to find one for my daughters friend but a search didn’t turn anything up. He’s just starting out racing his car and I didn’t want him
To have to hack up his floor pans the car is mint.

Scratch that I found it.
For those looking it’s ram air restoration that had them.

Took mine off due to intense rattles at mid-track. Ovalled-it for more range, then tried rubber sandwich against floor brace.

Worked, but still removed to make the fix permanent by drilling into hoop to hold the thick rubber strips.

PTFB has them too. i use one on my TH400 72 firebird, had to trim it a bit to fit better, runs real close to the top of the floor.

I bought several from Indian Adventures and I thought someone picked up their product line.

Was wondering if anyone has installed one of these in a 61-64 full size car? Thinking I may need one with my 4-speed car. But very small trans tunnel and lots of stuff on the way. Exhaust runs extremely close to the driveshaft.

Do not need much driveshaft clearance from side to side.

If you make the hoop from .125 thick material in the tunnel area it will still contain the driveshaft.
Make the "band" wider so that you have more strength that way vs a thicker narrow width retention band.
You want to retain the driveshaft if you have a u-joint bearing failure on either end.

If you have a proper wall thickness driveshaft made, it does not have to be the same diameter as the factory unit.
The driveshaft should not fail in the center of the tube.

Retention of the driveshaft at the 3rd member of the rear axle is a bit more complicated.

The driveshaft will have some angle change as the rear goes thru its travel. The retention material can be thicker there.
And high quality "U-Joints" installed in the new tube.

It gets real ugly on a street car if you have a failure of the driveshaft or u-joints and it beats the crap out of your factory floorboard.

Saw this on eBay, says F car but don’t think there’d be any difference. Seems heavier but not too crazy about how they welded it.

I have one from Ames. I don't know who makes them. It actually hit the driveshaft on the top ever so slightly. I had to put in the brake to make about a 5/8" offset.

To adjust perfect we had the car on the ground on wood so we could adjust , took a few try’s.

I bought on I think form IA years ago-it is round and with the engine trans offset in the second gens I was not sure it would work unless bent to an oval shape

Has anyone had a front u-joint failure with one of these in place? I have and it didn’t work out very well.

I know of 3 people with the same issue and the "Hoop".

All three had to replace their floorboards.

I did and it did not change. I was worried about that at first. My car is a stick, 3 degrees out and 3 degrees with the loop in.
