When my grandmother ordered a 78 T-Bird Town Landau it came with a gold plated plaque with her name on it from Ford . Very similar to the look of the plaque on grandfathers 66.
So it was some kind of Ford thing

My mother ended up with both of those T-Birds as hand me downs .
They handed down 5 different cars to her over all the years from mid 70's to mid 90's

My father was selling GM cars at a multi-line dealer in the late 70's thru early 80's.

Every new car he sold, he ordered an engraved personalized dash tag for the new owner.

Here is a ‘66 with one of those personalized gold plaque above the radio.
Photo is blurry, but it’s there from back in the day.

That one looks more official.
Not just from a trophy shop.

The T-Bird plaques were real elaborate.
Like small gold bars instead of thin plaques
About 3/8" thick , 1" x 3" in size , and were supposed to be real 14k gold plated .

The 74 T-Bird he ordered wasn't a Town Landau , and he also ordered a new Truck in 74.
Neither of those came with those gold plaques , or any plaques at all.
So it must have been something they only did on Town Landaus
