Recommendations on leaf springs for LS-powered second gen Formula
I believe the leaf springs are the stock ones from 1972 for my Formula. They worked fine ever since I got the car, but the tire is now rubbing against the wheel well when I hit a bump so it's time to replace. The car is lighter in the front with the LS1 I put in, so I installed Moog 5610 Springs to level her out.
I am not sure if I need to purchase stock replacements or if I should purchase a 1" drop set of leaf springs. Here's a pic of the spacing between the center cap and the wheel well. I was looking at this kit and they claim that it's stock height and a direct replacement for second gen f-bodies: http://www.pro-touringf-body.com/pro...eaf-spring-kit But I am definitely open to suggestion. Thanks for any help / advice. Pic of the car when she was hired for a commercial: |

You might want to reach out to Deaver Spring/suspension out in California if you can not find what you are looking for with an off the shelf spring, they will custom build the springs for your needs. Leaf springs are all they do. Their main focus is Baja and desert racing but do plenty of classic and muscle cars. I currently have a an order placed with them.

PTFB springs & other parts are excellent quality & most are priced far better than the other bigger suspension companies... they specialize in only 2nd gen cars.
I have the 1.5" drop GT front/rear springs on a 72 firebird, has an excellent stance and the rear looks almost factory even with the slight drop running 225/70 tires that were stock size for later WS6 trans ams. |

Thanks guys, this really helps!
78w72....forgive my ignorance...out of curiosity was the WS6 package available for 1972? For some reason I thought that was offered for later years... Also would you happen to have a side view pic of your 72 with the 1.5" drop? |

Right, WS6 was only 78-81, I just mentioned the 225/70 tires that came on WS6 cars, they are a little taller than most the G sizes of earlier cars, I prefer a taller tire to fill the wheel well better.
Heres a couple pics that show the stance, this is before paint & interior were done. I bought a full GT kit from ptfb these are the big block or pontiac engine front springs, they have a sbc or LS motor springs too that are a lot lower if you have a heavy iron pontiac engine.
