Has anybody ever delivered pizza in a GTO?
I was remembering back to times in the far past. (the 80's LOL). I lived in Clearwater FL and went to a tech school after I completed high school. In the evening and the weekends, I worked at a pizza place. (among otherjobs I had back then). I used to deliver pizza with my '67 GTO. Even back then, some thought it was kinda crazy. It wasn't too bad cause I had blew up the 400 and installed a 326 at some point after I had started the job. I remember one time I was kind of backed up, got behind a bit, you know 30 min or less. This is still with the 400, I got a call at the pizza shop (I made pizza's too) And it was from this pregnant lady. She always liked to order a pizza with double sauce, a little cheese, mushrooms and anchoves. My boss asked me if I would handle this one, afterall he was making two other pizza to go with it that I was to deliver. Ok, so we made the pizzas (my boss didn't like handling the anchovies I remember) I took them and put them in the warming delivery bags. I delivered the two pizza'z to a house not far away in Dunedin. So igot back in the goat and proceed to the preg' ladys house. On the way there got delayed by an accident, I was getting anxious that I would be late. So upon turning onto San Christopher off of cr 1, i managed to get behind some little old lady. Oh my god she was only doing 20mph in a 35 so I guess you know what happens next. You got it, I grabbed that hurst dual gate and slammed it down into 1st gear and mashed the pedal. Anyway, I went around the little old lady going sideways , bet I scared the @&$% out of her, and then I remembered.........oh no that pizza with the extra sauce, I'll bet its ruined, not time to check it so onwards to the house. Stop in front of the house and grab the warming bag. I gently open it and sure enough, the box is dripping with sauce out of one corner. I open the box and sure enough there is little to nothing left on top of the pizza 'cept for a couple of straggling anchovies and the remnants of some sauce. So I go up to the front door and I show the lady her pizza and she is a bit upset. I tell her some story about stoppin short for some idiot driver, she jus kinda looks at me and the car sitting out by the street. UH-HUH she mumble's then "well, I'll let you use the phone" (no cells back then remember).
I call the boss and tell him to make another "special" for the prego lady. He just laughs and says "ok, I dont want to know what happened, It'll be here when you get in. I drove real careful the rest of the night!! |

Good story. I remember an episode of Home Improvement when Tim ordered a pizza and when the delivery guy brought the pizza to the door, Tim asked "Hey is the a 66 GTO?"

Yes i did, not as glorious as your story but, for a short time i did deliver some pizza in my 74 GTO, got real tired of people calling it a NOVA, "Hey nice Nova " "Hey it's not a Nova" "What ?" Loved seeing the flap open on the shaker when the pedel was on the floor ! That was 1987,, still have the car today !!

No pizza delivered with my first GTO..... lobster was tho. And that's no lie. 50lb box of lobsters would be flown into the airport in Massena from Maine, and I'd be the one to deliver it to a restaurant in Potsdam, NY. THe FBO I worked for flew charters to Maine and would bring back the lobsters as air freight.

I never delivered a pizza in my 74 GTO, but it did get ne back and forth to my first job at Oceans of Pizza.

i delivered for dominoes in my blue 71 GTO a few times, when my econo box was down.

Not me, and not a GTO, but there was a guy here in Lancaster delivering pizza in a 70 or 71 T/A just a few years ago, right before gas went up to $ 4.00 a gal.

I delivered for Domino's in my 70' Lemans. Never had a problem beating the 30 minutes time limit.

I used to deliver pizza in my '76 Lemans Safari Wagon. 400, 2 barrel. A 22 gallon tank got me 200 miles. But, it only cost $20.00 to fill it.

I never delivered pizza, but a small locally owned pizza place employed a guy who delivered pizza in a 75 Trans Am 400 4-spd.

ahhhhh.....Gondola Pizza and a 70 GTO. Back in 74, I worked at a great pizza place. My boss had a GTO, and if I worked past midnight (14 at the time) I was driven home in it. Well, making sure my shifts always would end later, I knew the car of my dreams. It took many years before I would get to drive one. I still wonder where that car ended up? True story and I still love Gondola Pizza. My Judge will be on the road this week..time to head to Gondola!!!!

I drove a $600 '67 GTO when I worked at Burger King.... I've got some stories that will make you never want to eat there..

My Pontiac spent several seasons delivering pizza while I was laid off from
construction work ! Top down and tunes playin'! Gas was cheap and way back then folks were more honest and you didn't have to worry about gettin' killed either! Ceasars Pizza....Liverpool NY "We knead the dough" ! LOL!!!!!!!!!

YEA...............I delivered a LOT of pizzas in Liverpool, Bayberry and Clay !
Premium gas less than a BUCK a gallon! That area has grown a lot! Ceasars was located in Ponderosa Plaza right behind Heids hot dog stand in Liverpool! I still see Pete Vercillo the owner around now and again and we laugh how OLD we are now................... Muench Rd/Dr. off Bear rd ??????????

A bit off topic, but back around 1966-67, when I was a kid, I always loved it when the folks called up Chicken Delight and had it delivered....the delivery kid was a gangly teenager in a tired grey 1950 Studebaker bullet nose that burned oil....but I just LOVED that car. "Don't cook tonight--call Chicken Delight!"
