Disc brakes and 14 inch wheels
You may have seen in my other post I have a 1962 Bonneville with Ames' front disc brake kit. I have all the parts and want to make them look like 8 lugs. I really don't want to spend $1500 on 15 inch 8 lug wheels. As you know the 14 inch 8 lug wheels won't clear the calipers. Can enough material be removed from the calipers to clear the wheels without compromising their strength?

Depending on how bad the clearance is, you should be able to grind enough off the caliper to make the 14" wheels fit. You will likely also need to trim a spot on the caliper mount as well, which will also typically contact a 14" wheel.
Those calipers are pretty thick. I wouldn't be too terribly worried about removing material unless you're looking at quite a lot of it.

I designed this kit - what you want to do is not going to happen.

Scarebird, what is the problem with what I'm trying to do? I was trying to copy the set up advertised in Smoke Signals. It appears they use a rear 8 lug drum with the braking surface machined off on the front.

Those use an 11-7/8" rotor - they are too far out radially to work.
Not sure if they will clear the 15" either, though they may... |

Thanks. Looks like I have to buy his kit or forget it.
