Default New 72 W66 HO

I just picked up a 72 W66 HO. Nicely optioned car, numbers match. Someone spray bombed the interior green at some point. It is supposed to be Beige Vinyl Covert. Legendary says Sandalwood is the same. Can someone confirm?

Because Sandalwood is many shades of beige, it easily can pass as the 73 color, without the fancy " down under" name.
The interior pieces will NOT match, ( colors) and never did when new. Oddly the beige 84.5 Anniversary TA had same issue, nothing matched.

Thanks. yes, the car has been in garage, off road since 2001. Bought from 3rd owner. Still waiting on it to ship to me but I can't wait to dig into it. It has always been a Cali/AZ car. The underside looks very nice.

A few years ago there was a 72 Esprite for sale in the midwest. It was a one-owner, low mileage car. The original owner had passed away and his son was selling the car. I tried to buy it, but I didn't get the car. However, the son did send me a bunch of pictures, which I kept in a file. The car had 21K miles on it and had been well cared for. It was green with deluxe covert interior. I kept the pictures because I had never seen a covert interior before. Very nice interior.

Congrats on your purchase.

I had these samples from SMS in a drawer so I dug them out and photographed them. The 1970 samples are Sandalwood and the 1972 samples are for Covert. The fabric samples are very close.

The car made it home. Still has the original date coded KR wheels, all original owners pamphlet and information including original protecto plate. All original sheet metal, etc. I am beyond thrilled.

Great Car
Big-time Congratulations.

Never seen a 72 with that interior.
73 Beige cloth interior used about the same dark trim colors as that.
Amazing that someone dyed it green of all things.
