Default 1964 Firewall pad attaching

The push-in pad retainers from PY are obviously too large for the original holes as others have also found. A read here that someone even filed/trashed the holes with a large drill in order to get the PY retainers to fit. Once installed they look large poking thru and simply deviate way too much from the originals. Hate to install this junk especially after spending all the $$$ trying to detail and stay accurate to the project.
These are just wrong sized---Anyone found a more accurate retainer for a 1964 GTO?

Would not use that junk on mine. Found these pictured below on a Corvette site and ordered them to be trimmed down to resemble what the car came with. Can't remember where?

Original left, new middle & new trimmed right.

I just punched the buy button for 7. I will report back on these. I remember a fello installing these with a tool that had a screwdriver handle and the shank "stepped" so that the hole in the retainer centered the part, and the step pushed on the larger diameter head of the retainer.
Thanks to all.

Looking forward to your report. Your plan sounds really good.

I tried pushing the ones I got through without that stepped shank and just succeeded in pushed the tip out.....

I am sure someone will suggest a broom handle diameter with a 3/16 bolt forced into a pre drilled hole. I will wait til the retainers get here. Could be the tool is a bit more engineered and the small diameter needs to descend the depth of the hole and push there as well as the large stepped end at the back of the retainer. We shall see.

This. ^ Those appear to be the same ones I got from the Corvette guys a few years ago. Work good, no special tool necessary. Lube them up and pull them through from the engine side.
