Frames OK?
One sold on ebay recently that was pretty pristine....it probably can be found under "completed auctions". It had factory wires, landau, loaded except no PW...I'm thinking like $4000. Post some pics. |

A few pics of the car. Lady says tranny has been replaced with a correct saginaw 4-speed, otherwise, car is mostly original and in good condition (excluding the bumper fillers). Did they use a Hurst shifter on those 4-speeds?

Get it!
Yep, Hurst shifter with Saginaw tranny. Not sure about the black consol with blue arm rest. Looks like a very nice complete car. So rare it's hard to place a value/cost on it.
The black car with T-Tops sold in OK was nice too @ ~$4,000 as mentioned. Buy this for ~2-$3,000 would be a good buy if it is a solid car. Maybe more depending on how solid it is. |

The value is kinda based on who your buyer is. This car is optioned out very nicely and has very minimal wear (even the carpet to the side of the gas pedal isn't even dirty, much less damaged). This kind of car is worth more to a guy like me. Others couldn't care less about all the options, would pay less.
I've been in this situation selling houses.....if a very clean, well appointed house, you can get more $ in a neighborhood if you wait long enough to find your targeted buyer. Realtors hate me, cause I can wait six months. They want quick volume. Anyway, the bumper fillers aren't helping, and the Rally IVs wheels ('79) don't really add value. |

That seems like such an odd color combination, two tone silver with blue interior.
I would jump on that car, if I had the extra cash, and storage space. The one that sold for $4000 went cheap, if it was nice with no rot. |

Lady has sent me copies of the original window sticker and car seems to be very well documented. She's been passionate about the car all these years as well, so she's taken care of it fairly well.
Personally, I like the car, and I get the feeling that these 79 4-speed cars will have some collectibilty in the near future. The 301 isn't exciting, and the quality of the 79's is suspect in some areas, but that 4-speed and those options are intoxicating to me. PROs: I think this would be a neat car to get, slowly restore, and sit on for future value. I also think it would be a super fun car to drive. She said it's drives like a champ and behaves exactly like it should with 64K miles. Her bottom price is $4500. CONs: non-original transmission with correct replacement. I've always been a hard-core numbers-matching guy, and this bugs me. Car has also been repainted, and while it seems they did a good job, I'm huge on original paint. I can live with a nice repaint, but it's not my favorite thing. Finding parts doesn't seem to be easy either as I search ebay and other sources for that year. Obviously 79 isn't a highly sought-after year for the GPs, not many people are stocking or selling parts, and GM no longer has anything for a 27-year old car. And I haven't even run this by the wifey yet....

The 79 GP SJ has to be one of the highest priced models I've seen.
The sticker says wire wheel covers, yet it has Rally wheels on it? Maybe a dealer swapout. I did that to get my Rally IIs on my 78. |

Yeah, I saw the wire caps listing on the sticker, too. Not sure what transpired with that. Maybe a dealer swap or the owner just like the rallys better. Owner says she found the car on the lot this way, so maybe she opted for the wheel change when she bought it...
Boy, temptation is getting me good on this one....just not sure how I'm going to get this past the wife. She okayed a 6-car garage for our backyard, and it ain't cheap, so I don't know if I can pull this 79 SJ off....

If I could go back and order one new, I'd get Rally IV's, body color. Not too many options either.

The price for this car is a good deal considering the low milage. I've got a set of wire wheels in storage too. Not real easy to keep clean |
