Default Butter as rustproofing

Is butter effective as a rust preventative when caked into weld seams?

I ask because I am looking for an 'upside' to accidentally leaving a pack of *12* sticks of real butter in the back corner of my pick-up's extended cab... on a 97 degree day. I gasped when I saw the box sitting there...pick it up...clearly empty by weight. Theres a relatively small puddle in the corner of the carpet so I guess the rest is down there somewhere...rustproofing the seams right?

Oh, I also occasionally get a whiff of what smells like buttered popcorn.

You may be attracting rodents, or other pests. Also the dog will enjoy that spot of carpet.

Have you ever smelled rancid butter? Sorry to say if you don't get that cleaned up soon you probably will.

Fabulous. I just found it this morning when I went to put something back there. Actually, there was a bottle of bourbon tucked under the ext. cab folding bench, left over from my last camping trip. I pulled that out first to be put away (I keep the truck pretty clean) and noticed it was oily on the outside. Wasnt sure why, so I sat it on the ground. Then I saw the box of butter...

That was my first thought

I'd pull the carpet and pad, probably just replace the pad, and see if you can even get the carpet clean. That's an awful lot of butter to have soaked in. It may be new carpet time as well

Yep, real butter is going to start smelling very bad before long.

Luckily I am so poor I can't afford carpet in my truck, just rubber flooring

good thing the popcorn didn't spill too, in this heat!
A partial quart of gear oil spilled in the trunk of my first gto and ran down into the trunk extension. The whole car had rust issues but that lower quarter held up by far the best.

I spilled an uncooked egg dish down the back seat of a car once. It was one of those "On your way could you drop this off at the hall. They will know what to do with it." Within a few days I was stripping the back seat area down to the floor boards. I was gagging while pulling the carpet adding out!

Oh no! I'd be disassembling everything necessary to clean that out...

I think your only option is to use a loaf of bread as sound deadener.

LOL! Good one.

Its on my already overloaded "To do" list. I'll give the simple green a try.

It was unsalted butter btw.

Yeah.. it's not a smell you want to be near or have in a vehicle.

I left a roaster chicken in the trunk of my old GP, i hadn't used the car after shopping for a few days and man it was a terrible smell.....flys were all around the back waiting to get in. Weeks of airing it out. Using coffee grinds and other means to rid the car of the smell.
