Ok guys...getting very close to getting this thing on the road. I want to make sure I get into the 13s with no problem...(don't want to get embarassed by a Nissan with a coffee can exhaust pipe).

My rebuild is basically stock except for Hooker 2" exhaust going through (2) turbo mufflers. I plan on having the distributor recurved. My main concern is the 3:08 gears. I havent seen any reports of SD cars in the 13s with these gears. If I change gears, it will probably bee to 3:73s. Is there a larger crank pulley available, if I go this route, to keep from spinning all the accessories too
fast?(this is an AC car) .

Thanks in advance,

Hey Ross,
Give the 3.08s a chance and check my post in the 77-81 Ta's section its entitled "In need of some Suggestions" basically i have a 455 in a 77 TA mild cam and most of the Good stuff in the motor and i only go 14.20s at 96 mph but i spin the tires through the 60' so most of the ppl in the post have suggested i get away from the 3.73 gears. Now the same may not hold true for your SD455 but i figure if your building a basically stock SD i am probably in the same ball park poney and torque wise ?? i dont know thoe. i do know this with the 3.73 gears on the interstate you will be running about 3000 rpms just to keep up with trafic, and that extended rpm on that big motor tends to run them hot..i have to stay around 50-55 on the interstate to keep Rpm;s in the right range and not run hot. but if your not worried bout it being an interstate cruiser hey by all means go for the 3.73s as a matter of fact i have a set i may be willing to swap you mine or sale em to ya
Mike

DO NOT change those gears. Buy some drag radial instead. The 3:08s will easily get you in the 13's. Your problem with be tons of torque blowing off street tires down low. Get the traction first, then worry about gears. If it helps, my SD is running a pretty warmed up motor with the 3:08 gears but with slicks and I'm running 13.0 or 12.9. I can't imagine a stock SD with traction not getting into the upper 13's.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">What size are your rims? I have a set of Cragars right now with 275/65/15 on them. Not sure on the width of those rims. I also have a set of 15x8 WS6 snowflakes. Will that size tire fit on either of these? I guess it depends on the backspacing, right?

I'm running 255-60-15 for street tires. There's plenty of room left. I've seen Larry's car and I like the look. I'm leaning that direction with a set of the 8 inch Rally II wheels you can get now. I think those snowflakes will bolt up with no problem. Test fit them and see.
