HPC Coating intakes? - EFI
Have any of you guys messed with HPC coating intakes etc?
Since injecting my 400 i've noticed hot hot the manifold temps actually are with these poncho mills (~150-170°F) and looking at how to reflect some of the heat that is coming up from the engine. One thing was ceramic coating my intake & plenum.... This is a street driven car too.. Cheers Kris |

you can do your valley pan also.

Did it noticeably drop IAT's?
I'm going to be fabricating a cold air induction through the inner guard on the weekend so hopefully that will help. But i'm just trying to work out if the cost per degree - so to speak - is worth it... |

I too am looking at having my intake ceramic'd, partly for looks and partly for less heat. Interested to see how it will effect air temps.
A sample of the coating (local coating company) on my headers, i cannot wait to get them on! ooppps! Alittle on the large side!

From HPC's site, you will retain heat by applying a ceramic coating to the outside surface of your intake. The recommend a thermal barrier coating on the underside if you are going to coat the exterior to minimize the effect. HPC offers a powdercoat which has the appearance of a polish but it is like $200 vs. $250 for the ceramic coat.

holycrap, glad i'm on high-speed now instead of dial up...
krisr, yes, beneficial, for sure. do the inside and outside, and water passages. formula8, we're talking bout thermal barrier coatings here. idea is to isolate the intake from engine heat of any kind - radiated, convected, whatever.

cost per degree?
i dunno, truthfully. but mine's a turbocharged deal, so every degree is worth real money to me.... coating company refused to do insides at first..."we're not responsible if coating flakes off, *****/moan/worry/***s" had to send back in afterwards to do insides; i was fairly pissed didnt get done first time.

We've had intakes both power coated and jet hotted that had had porosity issues. No descernable HP gains that i recall. Coating headers definately reduces under hood heat and makes power on cars that don't have fresh air intakes.
