Default Pontiac IL Museum

On my way back from SD I decided to make a side trip to the Pontiac Transportation Museum in Pontiac IL (Thanks Tim Dye!) And to my surprise they had a OHC-6 on display! I snapped a few pictures of it. I think as displayed it would be out of a 1967 Lemans or Tempest Sprint.

Here are the pictures I took. To make it more interesting how many incorrect or missing parts can you find. ( I am not counting the motor mounts, but anything else is fair game)

This is not meant as any kind of slam on the display, I was actually thrilled to see a Cammer in the museum!

At a quick glance I found at least 5 items.

about 15-20 on display, they have around 6 engines, and alot of misc stuff. Its a nice but small place, they also have quite a room with documents that I did get a chance to look at. Worth a side trip IMO.

Thumbs up

When one of the club members donated that engine I figured Tim would just doll it up and make a static display out of it, IIRC it is a fully machined engine.
knowing it was missing several OE bits, overall I think it will pass by most who look upon it.

The 1st engine donated to the Museum of Speed has similar shortcomings with details but again as you said it's nice to see the Cammers represented.

Thumbs up Museum of American Speed. Lincoln, NE

This is the very first engine the Club donated.
This location was chosen due to its close proximity to our founding president.

I think this one was put together before the donation, which is why it looks closer to "STOCK"

Jeff, Looks to me that this is the engine that is on the latest cover of Smoke Signals. I really wanted to attend that meeting in Nebraska when this was presented. Work was busy then and I couldn't get away.

Not sure what the fan is from but it looks pretty formidable! PS pump pulley is unknown to me & the crank, W pump pulleys are wrong for PS. (and expensive).
Difficult starter brace- to- block is missing.

That is indeed the engine the club donated.

The 7-blade AC fan is correct for '66-'67 and VHTF.

The "Flex" fan came into play for '68.

The Cast PS dual groove pulley is for '66 and could be early '67 but I do not know for sure.

The belt configuration looks correct but looks like it is the AC-PS set up which would explain the fan, unless there was an HD Cooling option but again that I would have to look into.

I just wish they wouldn't have added the paint details to the Cam House & Belt cover, that went away right after '66 but they also never painted the fins in RED.

I agree the fan looks like the 7 bladed fan that was on my old A/C equipped 66 Lemans Sprint. I would like the 67 A/C fuel pump as a spare for my Bird!

Jeff youve got a leg up on the details seeing in person.
I have trouble looking at pictures to determine the ills.
It looks like a mix /match of 66-7 parts.
Block and head code would sort out which year.
The fan and fuel pump are for A/C so some parts are pretty scarce.
belt cover bolts are wrong
if it is an A/C equipped unit the idle speed up device is missing
My early 67 A/C car used a vapor return fuel filter as did the 66 I had
Freds car may be late enough to have used the fuel pump vapor return.
Perhaps he will chime in.
From the looks of it most of the stuff looks like its a 67 with some 66 flavor added

I don't believe Fred is a member here. You might just have to call him to ask.

If I remember correctly Fred's car had the vapor return line coming off the fuel pump, but as with my Firebird the A/C compressor placement makes seeing that detail more difficult. Someone will have to take some pictures of his engine compartment at Norwalk this year, I will miss it again due to conflicting work schedule.

I realize this is a fun exercise on this site, but I think we should also all be appreciative that someone is displaying Pontiacs and Pontiac parts .

It helps keep out hobby viable and fresh .

Someone should probably offer up the correct parts and information to them.

I’ve mentioned in here before the public bashing of cars that aren’t 100% correct being sold and how I feel it diminishes values on our cars compared to other makes. I just think that privately contacting people in a helpful way or even publicly being helpful with a helpful tone is better also .

I think this thread has been fine but I’m bringing it up because I think it’s important to our hobby.

Must be a common sentiment among us... I had considered rounding up the parts to fix the ills of that display unit once I knew what it needs. Please please dont take the constructive criticism as bashing. No ones losing points here.
I think youll notice that all have complemented that there IS a display model here and are thrilled with it.

I agree with cammer-6 this was not intended to be bashing, just sort of a quiz to what parts are correct or what rare parts are on the car, I would gladly trade them a NOS 1bbl fuel pump for that 67 only A/C fuel pump it has on it. And anyone with a A/C equipped 67 A body would probably like that cooling fan as well!
