Default Correct alternator for ac rear defogg 63 amp

I have a 1978 w 72 and i just want correct parts on there. It's a solid original car for most part. Question I have is . I presently have a 1102480 61 amp. On there I also own various alternators from blanks , 2480,1102484 61 amp and 1102854 63 amp. Is the 1102854 correct my Facebook group member thinks it's suppose to be 1102908 or 1102909. Wallace racing has it as a question mark. What's the correct alternator for 78 and is it the same for 79?

Pretty sure the buildsheet has a partial part number as the code.

For a 1978 W72 your alternator should be one of these......

1102486 or 1102854

On the build sheet, box 31.......it should say UJ. I believe that those two letters are stamped on the side of the alternator.....see pic with CS stamped on the side.

Those stamped letters are usually worn off, painted over or possibly when cleaning the alternator with cleaner.

I wonder if it matters which plant the car was made at. Mine was assembled at Van Nuys, CA and I have the 1102854

I only have the PHS for the 78.

After some researching there is evidence that 79 used the same number, 1102854, and also 1102908.

I read where someone with 1979 TA, had 1102908. Supposed to be original to the car. But I believe it was the 403 olds.

A lot of conflicting information because the 1102908 shows it's for a corvette. But unless they were in the production plant, we will never really know.

I believe the 1102854 is what should be original to both 78 and 79 with the W72.

Hopefully someone with a 79 will have the PHS docs to help shed some light on it.

Default The 1102854

I seen on Facebook market a w 72 ls swapt all drive train low mile engine tranny and posi sell for 4200 including tranny and 10 bolt rearend. It. Infact has its born on components still and has the 1102854 alternator. I don't think they put a corvette alternator on our cars. 79 w 72 probably the same unless the factory ran out of correct alternators and used the corvette as a supplement. I had similar problem with my 70 chasing an alternator that was never used. Someone with a 79 real w 72 open our eyes on this.

And of course the parts manual features none of these numbers. Does it matter if it's a W72 over regular 400, other than the options that come with it?

Well if it doesn't matter they would be same I guess but I'm still learning. Seems like this is a confusing topic. Maybe someone with a 79 will help out.

I think a non optioned car got the lower 55 amp, the ac or rear defogg got the 61 amp, and the ac and rear defogg got either 61 or 63 amp. I have seen an original owner low mile 61 amp fully loaded 78 ta. So I'm confused and ask the group for help. Now I'm learning that vet codes were found on ta too from 78 to.79. That makes me more confused.

Same with battery’s, my car is full power with the 400 battery, not the HD. Ames now sells both the standard 400 and the HD battery topper.

Box 31 on build sheet calls out your alt.
