Maybe you can mention it to him. Im not sure Jeff takes it seriously. Not sure if he will be on the "cruise" Jeff puts together this year. May be with showing just to run into him..
If you end up converting to Disk Brakes I have a correct MC and prop valve for that thing for you. Booster is same.
Again feel free to let Fred know there is a young Guy in love with his car.
Andrew is working at Nikolas Motorsports right now. RIght accross from M1 owned by John Nikolas' brother. Getting his hand on in the Porsche / BMW Motorsports world. Great Experience.
Not to Hi-Jack your thread but Tempest attached. Paint courtesy of Rick V. as usual. Same Fontaine Blue as Scott's 65

Nice! As much as I think the 4-dr cars are neat, I still prefer the 2-dr coupes like your sons, hands down. Rick V. does great work, so that Tempest is going to be totally amazing when done. I can't wait to see it. It's great to hear Andrew has an awesome job working on high performance euro cars. His heart is still with American iron, so he hasn't gone to the dark side...lol.

You guys have to come on the spring cruise that Jeff organizes so you can let Fred know, otherwise, I'd be more than happy to let Fred know for him.

No turning back now...! Dan DA'd the hood as it had a little rust coming through the primer.

Either someone added factory skirts in 72 when they were initially offered or it had aftermarket skirts like Foxcraft etc

North, do you know what application air cleaner code (PT) is for? B-body possibly, even though it seems all the '68/'69 4-bbl single snorkel air cleaners appear to be identical...but not sure if this is '68 specific, or '69 specific, or both years?

Dennis,
Take a look at the attachment right out of the 1969 Tempest PMI manual I mentioned. Clearly shows that Air Cleaner part #6485500 is for
a 1969 Tempest w/L76 and D/K45...
Will dig deeper to decipher the last part. but the number on that sticker is your Air Cleaner part number and the PT I believe is a the actual "Sticker" Code.
Either way this is most likely the correct air cleaner

Further info from same PMI (product information manual)
L-76 denotes 350 HO Engine (4-BBL Carb)
K-45 denotes HD Carb-Air Cleaner and Silencer.
So...based on that part number on your air cleaner #6485500 you could not have a more correct part.
Also on previous post showing the AC configurtation it shows a 2bbl carb but that is how the main photos is. Details like back of carb hook up etc are shown separately as different exploded views. That was just to get the idea.

Thanks Ross! This air cleaner has the original paint stamp on it in pretty nice condition. Just a little rust on the lid that has to be taken care of.

It's amazing that D. Rustin had the correct air cleaner that I bought from him last week. Thanks again Doug!

The hood is sans its primer coat and the original Palladium Silver paint beneath. Once the weather turns a little nicer and the roads clear up the Custom S will take a short journey down the road to the paint booth.

A couple of the doors had this tag under the door card...BAL is for Baltimore I assume, 49 for the week? It has an 11D build date on the trim tag (47th week of the year +/-), so probably means something else? Here are the stamps found on the hood (1B20?) and pass rear qtr. trunk opening (23369 X4G?).

Default Update

The Custom S has been getting prepped this past week for painting sometime next week. The windshield and rear window were removed and minor rust was found at the windshield base that needed some metal work. Fortunately, the rear window channel needed only a little tweaking otherwise was in great shape. The rear window’s seal had a breach at the bottom channel and would let water in the trunk, but, fortunately the car led a garaged life, so no damage (rust) in the trunk. The entire interior is now out, save for the dash and steering wheel, so this is getting pretty serious for a ‘scuff and shoot’! The front fenders were removed and the back sides and inner fender wells were covered with something like ‘cosmoline’ that is practically impossible to remove, so more work needs to be done to get them ready. The original carpet (tags are still on the underside) got a first cleaning along with the original seatbelts. The front bench seat base is pretty ripped and worn (hence the seat cover) and we’re going to take it to the upholsterers to see if they can match the vinyl grain and pleat pattern. The seat back looks to be in nice condition.

My Grand Dad said that in WW2 all repair parts that came into Germany for Tanks Trucks Jeeps were slathered in cosmoline.
He was in a Tank.
They had to use gasoline to get it off.
So maybe that will work , if it is Cosmo.

Would probably need supplied air respiration to go after it very much for very long if it works.
But those guys even washed their clothes and bedding in gasoline from time to time as well ,
and were probably real adjusted to it.

I had to do the bottom of the front seat on my LeMans wagon (the wagon version of the LeMans uses a Custom S interior). I bought some NOS material from the guys in Oregon which was a perfect match but we had to sew the pleats which were heat pleated originally.

BVZ, Gasoline was the only liquid that dissolved it, albeit very slowly. We have the inner fender wells to do next and that will be done outdoors when the weather gets descent. The PO really wanted to preserve his baby and hosed this stuff everywhere...but it worked! We're not positive what the stuff truly is, but it did turn an orange-brown when gasoline was rubbed into it.

North, that's the bug-a-boo, you can't replicate the factory heat-set pleats at a local upholstery shop, so the sewn pleats will have to do. I have to remember that this is a driver quality 4-door sedan, not a RAIV Judge, so close enough is good enough. We'll see what vinyl's he can get to try to match the factory grain, so hopefully we can get a reasonable match.

Thanks B-man! I don't know about first rate restoration, maybe a rejuvenation, but, whatever you want to call it, it will be a dependable fun driver when done. It's getting more attention than I thought it would receive in such a short time, but it will be ready for the nice weather this May.

We did discover the engine 'lean' to the driver side is due to collapsed factory motor mounts, the driver side being particularly bad, so new ones from Ames are on the list of parts to be ordered next week. We also have new DGA10S 2.5" mandrel bent downpipes also on order that will tie into the 2.25" exhaust system it has now (fairly new...10-12 years old and still shiny in places) along with new MagnaFlow (straight-thru design) mufflers to replace the Midas corks that are on there now.
