By the way...I think you guys are pretty close with the Buick colors. No telling what it actually was but looks close. It also looks a lot like the 1970 Pontiac Pepper Green.

I'm confused why post-1968 colors would be possible for a 1968 car?

Well, I'm sure it's NOT Pepper Green if that's what you're saying. I was only posting that info as a possible substitute for the original color. I doubt they'll ever be able to verify what was actually used...so, an actual Pontiac color that looks like it and could be easily acquired might be the next best thing.

I think it would be more appropriate to go through GM's 1968 roster and see what approximates it. And if not 1968, perhaps from the previous few years. Maybe look at Cadillac's colors and see if there's something there.

We have enough Pepper Green cars already. :-)

I used Google and wrote: 1968 Riviera Midnight Teal Pictures

And there is a picture of a Riviera, could that be the right color?
PPG states itīs special for that model.

The picture posted of factory overspray color found in floorboard looks more blue-green / dark teal'ish.

Try removing the rear interior side panels and see what color factory overspray you find there on the inner structures.

Pretty doubtful the 1983-84 picture is factory paint under the accents.

99.2 % the reason this car had a chrome front bumper was due to someone wanting a specific color that was not resemblance of standard issue GTO colors offered - as in a color not comparable to anything offered at no-cost.

In other words - the color of the car - determined its front bumper.
Not so much they wanted a chrome bumper right off the bat - then picked a wild color too. Their color choice demanded a chrome front bumper.

All the 68 GTO Buildsheets i have on file are from Pontiac Plant.
They were all on top of tank.

IF you find a buildsheet - very high probability it will describe or identify the color.

we will pull the side rear interior side panel and check the color there.

not sure why the color, the chrome Bumper or the full wheel covers. Just weird with all the hipo parts

I did find out a little more about the car. The original owner sold the car in 1970 to the second owner that i found out who he is and were he lives. Hopefully he will be a big help.

You guys might already have a handle on this ... but in case not -

Most all the paint source color charts have the factory codes listed in Alpha.
A C D K R etc ....

We know the Alpha and Numeric code equivalents of Pontiac colors - but to find out the Alpha equivalent of code 53 - you might need to check on some Buick or Camaro or Corvette websites.

Then you can do better searches on 68-older paint source color charts.

Just another possibility - since the B might indicate Buick with 1 for special paint - or B might indicate Baltimore ..... but i think code 53 is a player.

it shows the color listed the the sales brochure but not in the color chart?
The car was ordered and sold at Stephen's Pontiac ,

it's say's ,,Color- Autumn Bronze-Black
The black may have been the Rally stripes color? or the top color

Something doesn't sound right to me.

If it was available on the tempest, it would likely be available on the Lemans and gto. Chances are "Tempest" means any Pontiac A-body but what is this chart?

Autumn Bronze was a mid-year Firebird color.

A lot of the mid-year colors fall off the chart , since they were not offered at time of color chart printing for the new model year.
If it doesn't get carried over the following year - it misses the charts again.

Its a great color too !
Some of the fastest cars built in 1968 were that color.

Hard to imagine how it went to green from that ... but things happen

Congrats !

Stephens was a "Hot Rod" dealership in CT
They were pretty involved in drag racing during that time.

I was just over GTOLIB shop. He showed me the window sticker. It just does not make any sense. So I ripped out the rear side panel, the original head liner and sail panel all showing green paint.

Can PHS be wrong. First set of paper from them said paint color unknown now we get the window sticker and it says Autumn Bronze-Black

Here's a couple of pictures.
