Default 68 Sprint Engine

Hey all, new here and looking for a bit of guidance.

I've a got a bit of a car guy moral quandary. I've happened to find myself with a 1968 Sprint engine in my 1969 Firebird that seems to have been dropped in there in a half hearted clone attempt. Not a problem in that I have a built and ready Pontiac 350 to put in as well as a TH350 to match with it from a pervious project, the problem becomes what to do with the Sprint engine. I've looked around online and I can't seem to find any others that are for sale so I can't even put a value to it. I could really use the cash to put into the car I'm building, but I also don't want to sell it to someone who doesn't know what they're buying. I'm only going to sell it to a real hobbyist who appreciates it. The people I've spoken to around here with classic car experience have only ever even seen one of these engines before now. So if anyone has any ideas about what it might be worth, or know someone in need of a 68 Sprint engine please feel free to reach out. I'm not going to give it away by any means, but it needs a good home.

Thanks guys!

I may be interested depending on where you are located. How far away from the Detroit area?

As with any engine, it's a tough sell just due to weight and size.
Typically and realistically these engines are being sold for under 1000$.
There are always unrealistic offerings that litter the web over this price,
but again this is a true current value on an engine with unknowns.

As a base, I just sold a complete running '67 1BC engine and trans for 500$

I appreciate the reply Jeff, but frankly a couple hundred dollars isn't worth my time to deal with tire kickers. So if that's the case and I don't get an offer for it that moves me, it's going to make a really nice coffee table in my garage.

PM replied.

I agree, I am really only looking for an engine I can install in my 67 Spring FB while I rebuild the original. So we may not be a fit. Even a good running 1bbl engine would work for my wants.

Most likely you will get offers in the “hundreds” and not “thousands”. Just because these are somewhat rare, there are not a lot of true enthusiasts to command big money. People don’t understand or appreciate them, parts are hard to find, etc. So be prepared to sit on it for awhile if you think you will get big dollars for it, especially in this economy. If you decide to keep it in the car, we can help you out with parts, tech etc. Both of the Jeff’s are far from tire kickers. Good luck with your new coffee table.

Sorry I didn't mean to imply the Jeff's were tire kickers, I more so meant dealing with tire kickers in the future that would want to look at it. Unless I find someone who really needs the engine to complete a Sprint car, it's staying with me. A couple hundred dollars isn't worth the work of selling it when I might need an engine myself one day.

All of the help and information is greatly appreciated!

That's the Sprint owner mindset. I gave away a half dozen Sprint engines when I made a major move 12 years ago, but there's at least one 69 engine I should have kept.

Your best bet is to find someone local to you. Where are you located?
