Nut,
The car looks really nice and straight. The inside sail panels are a normal rot area for all of these 66 and 67's. They don't repo the sail panel for the GTO, but they do make one for the Chevelle, it's the same. Atleast it's the same where the rot is, the difference is where the sail comes to a point at the trunk/quarter panel area, just cut that off. This saved my body guy a ton of time, fabricating this area can be very time consuming.
And coming from someone who just installed 17" wheels on my 67, I love the look, not gangster at all. I don't understanding having a huge powerplant and living with 40 year old technology for brakes. Bigger brakes are better, and you can't fit too many big brakes into 15" wheels. Good luck with everyhting and make the car the way you want it, your the one paying for it, right?

Scott

Baking Soda Blasting is done....

Took 6 hours from start to cleanup.....

Nice guy.... Scott Morley Soda Blasting - Haskell NJ

Had a feeling about there being putty in the R/R 1/4..... will order another patch panel.

and for the record, dont even bother with cardboard, or trying to wrap anything to keep the soda dust out............. pointless. It gets everywhere, but it cleaned up easy, since Soda disolves with water anyway...

Windshield comes out Monday.....

Beats the heck out of stripping it with sanding disks and soda supposedly doesn't break the surface metal up, so no flash rust. My neighboors would love to see me do this in my driveway

Soda blasting a car that isn't completely blown apart, huh? Well have fun attempting to get the soda cleaned out of the car!! I did a car for a customer that had it soda blasted before he brought it to me, and it was pretty well together like yours. Let me tell you that stuff does get EVERYWHERE!!

Looks like you got a nice project there though...should be pretty sharp when it's done.

Soda might get everywhere but at least it doesn't ruin anything but the paint. I'd rather clean up from the the soda blasting than from that black slag crap. And it's a lot cheaper than anyother way to strip a car of it's paint.

Nut, it sure looks like he did a good job.

Default Standard issue

[QUOTE=ScottMDGTO;3593740]Nut,

Rust in the corners is standard issue I think, here is a picture of mine before repairs. We cut out all the bad metal and my friend welded in a new section, cost me a six pack.
Final result turned out fantastic, wish I could weld but a six pack is cheaper than a welder!!

Clean up was intimidating at first, but between a nozzle on an air hose, a shop vac and Soda being water soluable..... took about an hour, and you barely can tell the car was soda blasted....

There's something a few have done. When you have the rear window bottom trim off, drill a hole in the corners and solder in flared copper tubing for drains. You can run the tubing down to exit where ever you want. Or use rubber hose from the tubing to the exit point That way water doesn't sit in that section and cause rust. The ones that I've heard that have done it say it's easy to do and the best thing they did.

Best way is to to do it when everying is apart for your restoration. But it is possible, if you're careful, to do it later on if everything is back together.

Well, let me know how many places you discover it's still remaining when you go back to working on the car.

Just to be clear, I am NOT trying to put you down for having it soda blasted they way you did. I am just recalling my own experiences after working on a car that was done like yours.

I look forward to watching the progress as you keep working in it.

That was really cool. Ive never seen a car soda blasted before. Best part is that you have a very straight car to begin with. Looking forward to your restoration progress.

So that Baking Soda...Does it kill all the vegetation in the area once it soaks into the ground or what?
Car looks good.

Greg, it's not Baking Soda like you use for cooking or an upset stomach. It's something else that's not digestable...... Not for Human Consumption.

That soda blast looks to do a great job, of stripping paint. Yep rear window area brings back memories. I agree i like the raised white letter tire on these cars as well. Great pics looking forward to seeing more pics as you progress through the refurbishing.

Really? I was told it's not, it's some kind of soda but Not Arm&Hammer. I believe Eastwood is the one that said it on their website.

Yep, they did. Here's the page..... http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...emType=CONTENT

"(NOTE - This is not common household baking soda)"
