If you had a 168 and a 194 in your hand, you would not tell them apart. There’s a small black stamp on em with the number.

I'm real happy with the LEDs in my dash .. they are Phillips, got them from Rock Auto. About three times brighter than the OEM bulbs.

Last year I polished the cluster covers (1976 TA) which helped a bit and followed by replacing all the main cluster bulbs, fuel and volts bulbs, dome, and under dash courtesy bulb with direct replacement LCDs. Amazon from Sylvanite and a couple off brands with good reviews, and the dome and a 1156 under dash from Ames (should have went to Ames for the whole works but at the time did not have enough for an order to justify the shipping). Since then the selection from hardware stores has improved immensely. Huge improvement and for me, (night and day LOL) well worth the effort. A bit of a pain doing it while cluster was in the car, and could not get all of the bulbs (only a couple) so pulled the speedo cable, main harness and the two-prong tach harness. Wish I had done that at the get-go. Although reconnecting the harnesses took some patience. Did the fuel and volt bulbs in the dash. As I researched this on site there was discussion of problems with polarity, relays etc. Maybe that was for tail lights which I didn't do. The dash etc. plugged in and off to the races with no issues. It wasn't luck, the car was all stock original in the dash. Took a lot longer than I expected.

I never knew Pontiacs gauge cluster lights had a blueish hue to them or this year specific? My 68 GTO is more of a yellowy light what's left of it..

The gauge housing and the back of the gauge face are painted a light blue which reflects a blue light from a white bulb.

I have a 1975 Monte Carlo with 54,000 original miles, never winter driven. I bought this 4 years ago and hated the dull instrument cluster lighting. When the sun shined on the dash you could not read the mph. I took the cluster apart and the lenses were in mint condition , with a touch of dust.
I installed the white faces (see link) which are removable ( they go on like window tint ). Next I installed Phillips 194 LED bulbs and wired to turn on with key. Next to the 454 BBC 500HP I would say this was the best upgrade I made.
PS. The led bulbs from the link below were garbage.

So...just three 194WLEDs for the instrument cluster (speedo, tach, fuel/batt/oil)? Looks like RockAuto lists two for the instrument panel on a 70??

I used I think 10 of them. I think three were for the general gauge lighting, one each for oil, temp and gen warning lights, one each for turn signal indicators, one for high beam indicator, one for brake warning light.

Basically I replaced every bulb that plugs into the circuit board with the 194WLED bulbs. Used BA9S LED bulbs for .. I think clock, radio, ash tray, and AC control head and will probably end up using that type for courtesy light in dash ... glove box light, console shift indicator etc. The BA9S is the bayonet style, like a miniature tail light bulb. Couple of locations like the map/courtesy lamp may use a BA15s .... I have no idea what the difference is.

I went temporarily insane trying to keep track of it all.

Using the 194 in the turn signal indicator spots have one for sure advantage ... you are never going to forget and leave your turn signal on.
