PROJECT AVS-2
I've been creeping along on a project engine and one of the things that became evident was carburation would have to be something modern,
as OE carbs for 1966 sprints are nonexistent. So enter Edelbrocks 2VS 4bbl. This was chosen mainly due to the number of Cammers already using them. Yes, there are other options but after much consideration, I figured I too would go this route. So I set up my Manifold on a mockup stand and have started working out the details to get it functional without overthinking this setup. The first thing to address is butterfly clearance, clearly dealing with a completely different butterfly arrangement. So I picked up a readily available spacer. .5" seems to be the norm.

SPACER
After setting up this spacer I wasn't really liking the BULK so starting looking into bringing it down some.
You can see how much space there is from fully open to the manifold surface so I was thinking 3/4-3/8" might be worth a look.

SPACER 2.0
I decided to dissect a few gaskets to see how much or how little spacing I needed.
After a few layouts, it looks like 3/8" would be enough. So now to locate or make one.

SPACER 2.1
While fitting things together the one thing that I'm wondering about is the balance of air/fuel going with this setup.
I was considering trimming out the stock manifold to address the butterfly clearance required. However, after looking at the area on the manifold that would need to be removed I decided this is not a good option. Quite some difference between OE Q-Jet to this AVS. So maintaining any butterfly separation such as stock is out of the equation and I'm not fully sure how this will affect performance. Clearly, the manifold is not fully divided within chambers but still on my mind, so much for not overthinking  I've posed this question to our group but have not heard back on anything from those using this carb. I was able to find a 3/8" space and have it coming so I will remain on this course and will tackle linkages next.

When I had my Sprint I put a Holley spread bore on it (# 4165 comes to mind). I had to shave down one of the cam cover bolt heads because a piece of the secondary float bowl was leaning on top of it. Don't know if these still exist. I did a number of silly things back in the day.

Jeff curious what 3/8 spacer you found. I was only able to find something that was almost twice that thickness.

SPACER REQUIREMENTS
I found a no-name brand online and decided to give it shot.
However, I also found out the answer to my open spacer concerns. I was on the Ed website and within the FAQ section was the reason I suspected. And make it was within the book that came with the carb and I read right over it  So I'm now back to getting the 2696 required spacer which comes in at just over 3/4" I may take it over to my machine shop friends and see what they think about milling it down some? We'll see.

LINKAGE
On the positive side, I was able to mock up a fairly simple and maintain a close to the stock location for the linkage.
Using both factory and aftermarket pieces it looks like I'll be able to maintain the stock cable and achieve the full travel needed.

FUEL & CHOKE
I swapped the fuel inlet so I don't have to add any wrap-around metal line.
This keeps the fuel connection close to the factory metal line at the rear of the engine and may even shorten the amount of rubber line used from the factory as well. And it looks like the carb choke linkage drops right above the factory choke location so I should be able to incorporate it as well.

SPACER 3.0
Spacer came in and have to say it is a nice piece and clearly resolves any issues I had about any effects with the mixture using an open spacer.
I was hoping those already using this carb would have chimed in on which spacer they used and how it was performing. Oh well. As much as I don't like the bulk/rise it only adds about a 1&1/2" over the stock carb so my plan to use a Repro Pancake Breather with spacer/collar is not a problem.

My friend found a nice 1/4-28 rod in his stash I can use for my linkage.

I remember seeing those adapters hanging on the wall and wondering about the application. Never considered using an AVS carb on a Sprint but no reason why it would not work. It looks like you have it just about ready to go. I am interested to see how it runs. |

After doing a little reading , it seems like you made a really good choice using the AVS2.
The AVS design is similar to the QJet as far as the air valve secondaries and the metering rods (which are a lot easier to access and tune). And the AVS2 has annular boosters on the primaries which should work well with the small displacement engine like the OHC. |

Yea, I've been dragging ass for over a year on doing this.
There are no less than 6 other fellow Cammer members who are using the AVS2 with the last being installed onLeno's '68 Bird. So I figured WTH. I just wish they would/could have shared more details about doing this. But I'll cover that with mine. Cheers.

FINAL LINKAGE
Layed out far better than I had hoped.
Clearance concerns were almost non-existent with just some minor trimming to a web on the side of the carb body. Full travel achieved with no binding.

Nice work. That was perhaps the hardest part of my EFI upgrade, redoing the linkage. Looks easy but it is not.
