Default WTB 9778882 Bellhousing

Looking for a nice drive quality bellhousing for my 65 GTO. Cover would also be nice but not mandatory.

I’m going by previous postings and my 1966 Pontiac parts book. But I am not an expert here.

Default Bellhousing

You're confusing pt #'s with casting #'s. Often times 1 digit off. Just like many exhaust manifolds

9785581 is for 68/69 but can be used for 65 to 70.

Perhaps. I’ve seen bellhousings with 9785581 and 9778882 cast In them. Are you saying those are not the part numbers but rather those are the casting numbers. Both of those bellhousings look identical to me.

The 9778882 is for the 1965 car, not sure why they look the same.
Possibly they changed how the bellhousing part number was for just the bellhousing or as an assembly like with the throwout arm attached?
(which became the 9785581?)

Have you seen the prices for bellhousings on eBay?

I learned the hard way. If your block, bell housing and trans are originally from different cars, You NEED to dial the bell housing in to certain tolerances for parallel and center (to the crank). There are many You tube videos how to do it.

Thanks for all the help. I had no idea you had to align the bell housing to the engine. Doesn't look all the bad for the GTO since the engine is out. However, that will mean a transmission pull on my Firebird because I didn't do it there either.

If when you installed the tranny in your FB and it slid in with very little effort and you do not have any transmission vibration, especially in your stick arm, I think you are fine. No need to pull it apart.
