Push Rod Guide Plates
In the process of rebuilding my 389 with 77 heads. I saw previous postings about these guide plates and was wondering how necessary they are. I cannot find any NOS or replacement equivalents. These are part number 9777594. Appreciate any help.

Those ones were intended for use on heads with worn guide slots in the casting. They slipped over the studs and were retained by the valve cover if I’m not mistaken.
If your guide slots are not excessively worn they’re not necessary. Photos courtesy of Tom S.
