If these cars were found today which way would you rather see them?
original or restored as they were RACED or DEAD STOCK as they left the assembly line before the dealer prepped them for racing?
Which one would make you drive to a show to see them?

I like cars with a notable race history presented in livery. It seems weird to me to restore for example a light-weight SD car to as-shipped...

It’s the racing history of each car that sets them above the rest of the pack. A good number of the performance cars produced by Pontiac were offered with those performance options because they were expected to be raced.
They didn’t build SD 421 or Ram Air cars expecting that they’d sell a lot of them to the general public, they were for pumping up the brand. Restored rare performance cars have their place no doubt, but putting cars like this back to stock would be a sin.

Brutus with the Pontiac Hemi in it.
Would like to own it as raced before the Chrysler Hemi went in it.

Preserving heritage has it merits, in each case.

Mino but wish that car had been restored to as raced condition personally. It’s one of the cars I was thinking of when I made this poll. That and Truman fields car which did get restored to as raced. This Vs this you decide ! Especially a dealer car

If you notice most but not all of what I posted were period day2 cars by dealers Because I feel personally
Like it makes a differences if it was a dealer owned car Vs dealer sponsored , Vs someone just campaigning the car Each are steps In deciding if it should be restored to as raced or as stock The Stephens cars for example The yellow cars 68, 69 , 70 ,71, 72 ,73 (actually were only 3 cars repainted each season) all were Owned by the dealer, paid drivers on staff Bill Eckstrom And Tom Mc Innis , the 64 GTO was sponsored by the dealer and the driver/owner was an independent. Bobby Gaudreau But that’s just my opinion. I’d restore BOTH those situations to as raced . Would t even be a question for me .

The "as raced" is what gives them character. Glad I went that direction with the Brothers White car that I bought in the early 80's.

I have a 67 F in the garage with 10500 miles. 4spd,with 4.33. Original owner told me he had dealer install RA pan, springs, and 744 cam. Car still has Div 1 Stock Circuit Decals on b pillars.Tyrol blue. Paint good needs buffed.I've put maybe 35 miles on it. Original block setting in garage. I was tempted to remove decals but havent. I cant find pics of it got them somewhere. Jim Mino wanted to trade me a corvette for it. I said another Pontiac but a corvette is an insult.

I enjoy the crazy paint jobs, the car names and the vintage stickers from the era. Also, the mechanical ideas, parts and pieces we thought were so trick 50 years ago. Sort of a time capsule with wheels.
