But yes, that is the plan. Also currently undergoing a color change (going back to blue), and I have just dropped in a mildly built dual quad 455. |

Sorry to see you didn't win the eBay auction on the T-top stuff. Looks like the car is coming along nice. Bring it out to Three Hills if you can, I'll probably have the Can Am there this year.

It will be project for down the road... As for Three Hills, Well, Maybe not. Possible move across the country to my home town of Sarnia, Ont. If so, I will be hangin with the boys at the Dream Cruise. Squire, The green was nice, but I was never truely sold on it. I do all my own paintwork, so its no big deal (and it's fun!) for me to change colors every couple of years. I am going down a different path this time and will be using a water based product from www.autoaircolors.com Will be interesting...... |

OK, here are a couple pics of mid-70s A-Bodies I've owned. I don't have any now, but I have a hunch I'll be on the hunt for one again sometime. The one on the left is a Can Am I owned briefly about 15 years ago. Matching numbers w/ 60k miles but needed a resto. The one on the right is a '75 Cutlass S -- had a white interior with blue dash and console, and swiveling buckets.... very cool back then. It was my first car.

Cutlass looks like it was in real good shape. CanAm doesn't look too bad in the pics. What was wrong with it?

The picture of the Can Am was taken around 1990. It had a lot of little dents/dings, faded paint, some rust problems on the bottom of the hood (it spent much of its early life in New Jersey), a rod knock, a warped/cracked dash, etc. When I bought it, the shaker was missing (someone stole it from previous owner) and a plate had been riveted over the hole in the hood. I had assumed the shaker assembly was standard T/A fare. Oops -- not. Fortunately I found a used one from a rusty car someone was parting out. Here's a pic of another one I owned around the same time I had the Can Am. '74 Grand Am. Original red paint that was in great condition, red interior, 400/auto. Got from the little old man original owner for $1000, and sold it about 6 months later for about $1600. Seems like peanuts today, but the $600 profit was a big deal when I was trying to put myself through school on a shoestring budget

Is that a Tri-power I see under the hood of the 64? Does the 64 have a 4 speed or auto trans?
The CanAm looks nice.

Hi Bill
Yep it's a 4 spd..... It's a local Chicago area car..... Original low mile surviver. My father found the car at a U-STORE-IT type of place in '85. The story goes that the original owner put it there in '77. No one knows why but in '83 he stopped paying the monthly charge. So after a 6 months of non-payment the storage place siezed the contents and put it up for a sheriffs sale. My father happened to be there that day, not for the sale, just for other things. Even though the car looked great nobody had any interest in it (remember this is '85, before the car craze really took hold). So afterward my father approched the proprietor to inquire about the car. Bottom line was that if he paid all the back storage to '83 we could have the car. He closed the deal right there. When we went to pick it up I couldn't believe my eyes. Body looked great because the original owner had the forethought to a nice heavy duty cover on it, but the original red lines were flat/dry rotted on rally II's (spinners were in the trunk along with the original window sticker) and the original foam air cleaners were disintegrating. The engine compartment just needed detailing. Cleaned the interior, buffed the paint. Trunk was immaculate. Replaced the redlines. Kept the Rally IIs. The way you see it is pretty much the way we got it. Had 27k when I got it back in '84. Now has 29,800. Still has the original factory exhaust, shocks and brakes. Was definately a stop light chaser. No power anything. Original 76XW 389 w/tripower, 4 spd Muncie M20, 3:90 rear. Although the original paint shined like new and looked great from 10 ft, it was tired. So about 3 years ago I had it repainted. After being soda blasted the shop asked if it had been worked on before as they found no areas that needed attention. A little spot glaze here and there was all. Now-a-days I hardly take it out. With the rise in value I'm to afraid some goofball will run into it while wrenching his neck to look at it. That's why I got the Can Am so I can drive it. It's not a bucket of bolts but a good looker at 10-20 ft. Its respectable enough for local shows and cruise nights but somewhere down the road it will need to be redone. Driving the CA for pleasure is now in jepardy as Can Ams seem to have been rediscovered by collectors (35-45 year olds as a car of their youth) due to low production the fact not many are left. Prices are starting to go up. |
