I have 2 1966 Bonnevilles. Both are YE 389 4barrel auto cars. Both have dual exhaust with 40 series Flowmasters. My 4dr has 2" pipes, my 2dr has 2 1/4" pipes. Besides the fact that my 4dr has a 1/4" smaller pipe why is it so much quieter than my 2dr? My 2dr is LOUD, my 4dr is REAL quiet.
They both have #92 heads, same ignition coil, Accell 8mm wires. What is the deal?? I really don't want to have to replace the pipes on my car. Give me a thumbs up, tell me "Nice Car!", but for god's sake, don't call it an Impala. |

Its because I left the little U things off of my Eagle Rods right?
I think the framus rod is bad, something about the duration of my camber shaft being to short? Give me a thumbs up, tell me "Nice Car!", but for god's sake, don't call it an Impala. |

Also any little manifold leak will resonate as a very loud sound out the exhaust. At least thats been my experience.

I was thinking about the cam, I wouldn't think that they would have different cams in them.

Larger pipes will make more noise. How much of a difference is there?

Going from 2" to 2-1/4" is a significant difference.
Don't change to smaller exhaust pipes, put quieter mufflers on. Those Flowmasters are LOUD. Try Walker/Dynomax Super Turbos instead.

Yeah the smaller pipes have 79% cross sectional area of the larger pipes, which as they said makes a big diff. Also, if the pipes have any additional bends that can have a big effect. I changed the tailpipes on my truck from el cheapos to full mandrel bends and it was as if there were no pipes at all, a huge increase in noise.
