What was the highest (numerically lowest) rear gear ratio available for a Firebird in 1968?

2.56 gears were the tallest available in '68 on the Firebirds, great for a freeway-flyer!

Thanks, B-Man. I thought I was something like that but I just couldn't remember what the exact ratio was. It been awhile.
you definately correct, that gear did fly once you opened them up.

No 2.41 gears were available until '76 for the Firebirds (8.5" rear). The tallest ratio for the 8.2" rear was 2.56.

Anyone need a 2:56 rear end out of a 69 bird?

I'll get right on that

Seriously though, I really didn't think any one would want the rearend, I just hate the idea of tossing it in the scrap pile at my Dad's shop

I was running 2.56 gears in my daily driver 455 Tempest (lower link in my sig.) but after they started howling I swapped in a spare 2.93 rear. Ran a 13.899@101.85mph with the 2.56 rear at near sea-level (Famoso in Bakersfield). The car didn't run any quicker at the track with the 2.93 rear (14.10@100mph at Carlbad) the car is cammed so mildly that it likes the 2.56s better. I sorta miss the 140 mph top end that I had with the 2.56 gears!
