I think there was a thread on these before?
(didn't do a search)

This is from RamAir John:

Quote:
PINK MIST was a Special Order Color offered on all Pontiac
models in 1968 along with..
Carnival Red, Windward Blue and Marigold Yellow.

These cars used "SPECIAL" or "SPEC" followed by 1, 2, 3 or
4 on the Fisher Body Trim Tag. Sometimes only dashes appeared for
special paint.
Carnival Red was "2" and I think Pink was "1".

There have been at least (3) '68 Firebirds that have
surfaced over the past few years. One has been documented as having been owned by Nancy Sinatra.
She replied to the current owner's request for info and explained that she bought (1) of the Pink Firebirds in
'68 after a few were made for her special TV show.

I have spoke with a few former Lordstown employees who
distinctly remember building the Sinatra Firebird as it was a big
deal at the plant (hey, back in '68 she was quite the rage with her boots &
stuff).
The one guy I know worked in the Paint Shop and claims
there were quite a few Pink Firebirds made that year. I asked: "More
than 20 ?" to which he replied "Yes, more than that".

Another rare color is Carnival Red (Judge Orange).
A '68 RAI Firebird in this color recently surfaced and sold for
quite a bit of money.

There was a Pink Mist '68 Firebird on EBAY a few weeks
ago. I believe it sold for $9,000 but I'm not certain on the final price.

Maybe he will see this thread and respond?

I'll check and see if anything was written by Eric White (gtoric) on this subject.

I know he wrote some fairly detailed reports on the special color order process.

That would be great, Keith.

To my taste, the most important question is “why?”, what was the driving force for the pink? Keeping up with Ford’s pink 67 Mustangs? Playboy? Nancy Sinatra’s car creating buzz?

Mods? I really think this needs Lobby exposure, since Pink Mist and the other three colors were across the whole Pontiac line for ‘68.

There’s got to be more to this story.

I cannot verify this but had a interesting conversation with a guy who claimed to work for Pontiac back in the day in what sounded like a product planner role. In 2020 I was moving and holding a garage sale. He noticed the 3 Pontiacs in my garage and proceeded to tell me about a special order (possibly a fleet order) for Playboy magazine for 67 Firebirds in Pink. I did see a 67 GTO locally that when stripped for painting had Pink as what looked like its first color. I believe it had SPEC on trim tag.

One of the PY Members who attended Mecum , and saw Pinky in person ,
said the car was actually not all that nice overall.
Even used the words - sort of rough looking.

Maybe its heading for an eventual frame off with the new owner

Yes I looked it over. A lot of surface rust on underhood components you don't normally see rusted. A/C POA valve , brackets etc. Seems it was stored in a very humid environment. This is not the first dance at Mecum for this car. It has been there at least once before maybe twice. I saw it there a couple of years ago. It was very loaded car. Hopefully someone will give it the love it needs.

I looked the car over. After I saw the Trunk floor rusted through and Duct Tape painted over with Splatter Paint, I saw everything I wanted to see. Power Windows were inoperative. From what I have read, Sinatra's car had Pink Leather Interior?
