Default installing inner fender to front fender question

How did the rear tab (see photo) from the front inner fender attach to the underside of the fender? Was it simply bolted with a nut and bolt or did the small hole in the tab receive a u nut like the one pictured?

Yep, they use the sheet metal screw and a "speed nut" like what you have pictured above.
