May sound dumb but I can't find the stock OE case size or dimensions for a 62 Catalina dual exhaust mufflers. I looked all over the internet and can't get basic dimensions. My car had a hacked together system I cut off and threw out. I will soon be having a custom new system built but want to use the original hangers and positions for the pipes. Knowing the correct OE size of the muffler will help me place them exactly where they go and make new pipes to fit. I know they are offset inlet, center outlet. That's all I could find. Overall length, case length, width and height is what I am looking for. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just from the pics I can see it's thinner and shorter than I anticipated. I would like to get the largest mufflers I can fit in the car that won;t hang down and look bad. I want this thing reasonably quiet. Flow Master and the like are too loud for me. Looking at a Dynomax 17236. But the case is 24" long. Not sure I have room. Tom, I am thinking the E-Bay muffler is wrong for sedans/hardtops. The factory chassis manual clearly shows offset inlet and center outlet. The E-bay muffler is center/center.

I just rechecked the factory service manual for exhaust drawings. My previous 2 posts are wrong. The 62 and 63 manual both show a dual offset muffler for both years. The inlet is offset toward the center of the car to point the pipes along the drive shaft. They show a minimum of 1/2" clearance between the shaft and the pipe. And then the outlet is offset to the outside to point the over the axle pipe and tailpipe to the outside of the frame. Very sorry for my screw up. Anyway, it's the muffler body specs that. I really need anyway.

Check with Kenney C. He also had a former racer from the midwest can't remember who, that could make the pipes. Think he got them for Big Thunder

Thanks for the pics Tom. Really appreciate the effort. I spent several hours on line looking at just about every muffler available for a reasonable price. I was really amazed that performance mufflers have very limited sizes available and offsets are also not standard. I looked at hundreds of different mufflers from 20+ different manufacturers. Also read through Jim Hands nice muffler tests he had done years ago. I had already decided I didn't want a chambered muffler like a Flowmaster, (too raspy and loud), also not a turbo muffler, (too restrictive). I really wanted to use Dynomax 17236. 24" body, 29" overall. But not available in a dual offset. Actually, I could not find a single high performance muffler with a 24" case and a dual offset from any manufacturer. I ended up ordering a pair of XLerator 18" case mufflers XS1266. Smaller than I wanted, but they should be easy to fit in and they are dual offset. Stainless Steel case. These are the mufflers Brad at Ram Air Restorations really likes. I just hope they are quiet enough. We will see. Thanks again for the help. My system will be 2 1/2" front to back. I can't imagine trying to fit anything larger in there.

As a performaqnce muffler I have Hushpowers on my 421 SD Lemans and love them.I have not found a muffler for my 69 434 RA V bird that is worth a tinkers damn!Im on my 3rd set now and the drone at 2000 where I dive it is 84 decibels.I tried to Hushpowers,Dynomax Super Turbos and now have the same super quiet as on my GP and are all in the 82-84 range and at 2000 where I drive.Im going to look into a factory Walker exhaust with the 2 small mufflers and then the Xflo in the back.PERFORMACE on the street be damned!Tom

What got rid of a lot of noise (and also removed a good amount of drone) was adding a set of bullet mufflers. I installed them in front of the hooker aerochambers.
