70 judge slow resto
Finally getting around to posting this. Bought a 70 judge off my uncle last summer and very slowly working at getting it on the road. Engine is at builder now, hopefully done by Christmas. Doing all the mechanical stuff to it to make it drivable. Body is definitely not perfect. Still original paint and it was a driver so it’s got stone chips, scratches and some dings. Very little rust.
My uncle was second owner and last drive it in 81. I’ve been staring at it sitting in the same place in the shed for as long as I can remember. When I pulled it out last summer that was the first time I saw the car in daylight. Like most of you on here the judge was the car of my dreams. Still can’t believe I own one! Big thanks to my uncle Allan Carnegie for selling me his baby, I know how much it meant to him and how tough it was to let it go. God willing he will be able to take it for a Rip next summer! NICE!
I can't believe you let it sit all this time without at least sitting in it once in awhile dreaming? Looks like a very easy restore or even a cleanup.

Here is a couple of pics with my uncle from last summer. Stopped to visit him while bringing it home and he was telling me and my friends about each ding and all the good times he had in it.

And a pic of where it is now. On jack stands, engine out. Put my year one wheels up against it to check out how they would look

Nice car, I remember you teased it several months ago. Really like the Sandalwood interior with the green. Looks like it needs more of a cleanup than a resto from here. Have fun!

Congrats on getting that Judge.
A lot of it really looks in great shape , especially in the dash area. The interior is probably the saddle color. I see Tilt and 8-Track , what else does it have ? Original Engine ? Canadian Built Car ? |

Agreed, my bad. Sandalwood is lighter...

how old is your uncle? what year did he buy it? I would be so tempted to leave the paint as is.

Oshawa car with original RAIII engine. shocks were changed out at some point, but all other parts on the car are as built from factory. Will need new carpet, seat skins and headliner due to mouse damage. My uncle is 65. He bought the car in 78 and drive it for 2 years then parked it. Plates are from 1980. He said he pulled it out in ‘81 to go for a drive and the engine had a knock so he parked it again and was planning to drop in a 455. But, life got in the way and it ended up sitting in the same spot until I pulled it out last summer.

I guess I wasn’t telling the truth about the parts; I forgot that the factory clock was changed out for a tach by my uncle and the factory 4.33 rear axle gears were changed to a different ratio by original owner. Can’t remember what the ratio is now, I’ll have to get the diff apart to service it and check that out.

Noticed the missing chin spoiler and lack of rad support shroud.....was it built without ?

Don’t see signs of chin spoiler ever being on it and not sure what you mean about the rad support. It was ordered with the HD rad which I got re-cored

Think that Gordon was asking about the plastic fan shroud.
Even if it was still with the car i'm sure you pulled it off when you removed the radiator and the engine. Can't remember the rhyme and reasons on the front spoiler hits and misses. Seems like not all the cars got them. iirc My personal vote would be to try and preserve as much as possible and rock the old original used car look for a while. Especially up in Canada where most of this type stuff disintegrated. Spot it in on the lower quarters and fenders and hit the road. |

My plan right now is to get the bottom side cleaned up and painted to ensure the metal is preserved. No way I can afford the full body resto so that will be at least a few years away. A member in here sent me a great article about paint restoration so I’ll be going that route for now. I have a new rear bumper, rocker mouldings and year one 17” wheels so the shiny parts will look good and the rest will show its experience
